My problem with White Ribbon is its gender basis. It should just be anti family violence.

He's quite right. Anecdotally, women do far more physical damage to children than men do. I've spent a lot of time sitting in various children's wards and it often transpires the majority of the hospitalised domestic violence victims in the kid's ward have been put there by Mum. It's amazing what people tell you when you're stuck in a hospital cubicle with them. Chilling too.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

Willie Jackson said yesterday that men who get hit by their wives are wussies (or similar). What a complete wanker.

Women hitting men and children has been going on for ages, and I would say is just as prevalent as men hitting women. Thing is though, men are much less likely to seek help or tell somebody about it, as they believe they will lose face, and the children are to scared to do much about it in fear of another beating.

Women have been starting to speak about shit since kitchens, and unfortunately the government will more often than not, side with the women because they "do no wrong."

Speaking from experience as well, I definitely agree that it should be focussed on the family instead of just the women.

I'd just make it anti violence period.

You can't tell me that the first time one of these men/women ever hit anyone is when they have kids???

Nah it's not, generally starts from early on, often from childhood or their teenage years.

The gender bias against males is fully institutionalised, and is all but impossible to eliminate - any attempt to do so is deemed to be sexist.

Back in the 90s I did my time on the local school Board of Trustees. As part of the Ministry of Education legislation, student performance figures had to be recorded as follows - student (mean) average, girl average, Maori average. If the last two figures fell below the first, action must be taken or questions would be asked.

At our school, the girl average was well above the mean average, and rising - which was apparently really good. When I pointed out that meant the boys were falling behind, the frosty response was that was immaterial.

When a country's legislation is based around such farcical bias, we're on a hiding to nothing.

Because of the gender bias, I will not support White Ribbon. As I understand it, any men who get involved must sign a personal statement denouncing violence against women - but there is no such opposite requirement.

Why don't we just pass a law against violence in any form. That will stop it. Same crime ... same punishment. No preferential treatment due of the sex of anybody charged ...

    Oh wait ...

Yes that's right, man attacks woman is a separate crime, as is adult attacks child. Don't think they were ever all one crime.

I recall years ago ... a Doco on tv about women in prison. The ones in for murder were mostly there for killing (or seriously maiming) their husband/partner. (ususally due to violence against them)

All too often, women will keep hitting, until they are hit back - at which stage they call the police. And the law will be on their side - along with the White Ribbon brigade...

Reminds me of something a friend told me. She used to take in these poor woman after they had been hit in late at night and comfort them until one day she got to spend the day outside and overheard two or three of these woman ganging up on the guy and nagging him until after a day of this he throws a punch to get some peace. When the woman came over that night the friend told her she had created the problem so now she can go home and live with it. Not saying violence is an answer but neither is mental abuse, yeah I know provocation is no longer a defence but it can still be a reason.

If you hit them hard enough they wont be calling anybody.
