Should have mentioned there was a speeding ticket in it for them and 10 cars would have turned up.

The serve and protect moto has become a bit of a thing for what not to do.
The motto (moto, a new oil?) of the New Zealand Police is: Safer Communities Together, not Serve and Protect.

But hey, get those posts up there.

"Safer Communities Together" - does that mean we can take the law into our own hands in the spirit of togetherness?

Probably so given the "too busy" theme that seems to be prevailing. However, "cover thine arse first " would be very sensible.

My car got stolen and recovered. It was at a tow yard but I couldnt get it back until police had printed it.When I got it back there was no print dust in it and there was a bent fork that the thieves were using to turn the broken ignition in the centre glove box.It had a clear thumb print on it so I took it to Welly central P station.A week later I went back to see if processing the fork turned results and they couldnt find it.I guess they straightened the 2 prongs out and used it to eat lunch with.

My work van got done 3 times. It was printed once out of 3 and I had to drive it down to them to get it done. The other 2 times I was told pointless if there was no blood from the broken window. At least I got the chance to buy new tools 3 times as insurance doesnt cover work tools on home contents policy.

Aaaaaargh - always have work tools on a specific policy - the premiums are higher, but, the first clean out of my van was worth 35 yrs premiums......the second break in and clean out was all profit from there on.............

About 2 years ago I purchased a bike that ended up being stolen so I decided it was all too easy for thieves to sell stolen unregistered bikes.

I had someone design a website where you could text the chassis number and receive a text back to confirm if it was stolen or had money owing. Much like carjam.... Anyway I did a lot of hard work only to have it squashed by police because they wouldnt be able to supply us with that information!!!

I asked if there was an easy way to check if a bike had been reported stolen and they said the only way to do it is to fill out a bunch of info in a police station. I cant see many people going to those lengths when they purchase a dirt bike.

I've costed work tools insurance several times over the years. I'ts not been worth it, the annual premiums quoted are damn near full replacement value.

I just unload all the good stuff every night. Also if you use the tools at home and at work you can claim so the cheapest bet is to photo your tools beside a bike your working on to prove they are also used at home.I learnt this after the 3rd hit on the van.To be fair they didnt get many tools the last time as all the drills and main tool boxes wernt in the van.

Yeah. I hate it that you have to do all that just to avoid dealing with undesirables. Both sorts.

It's been years since I had anything nicked, to be fair.

From personal experience, Christchurch police did a fantastic job right from the moment when they caught the tosser who stole my bike, they went to every effort to try and keep the guy from being bailed, they made time to come round at daft hours to collect impact statements, and gather additional evidence, I can honestly say they did their best.

The courts however, not so fantastic...
