you poor delude bastard. There are laws that place responsibility on the person being overtaken which, if you had a real license and not a Sanitarium one, you might have had to learn. When being overtaken you have to keep left, must not increase your speed etc, etc. As stated before the safety aspect of the 2 abreast doesn't just apply to the cyclist, and as shown in other posts their 2 abreast behaviour isn't even safe for them. Riding 2 abreast on a narrow rode with a vehicle approaching from behind is unsafe and stupid.

Doesn't have to be deliberate either. Some cyclists really are in their own little world, and paying no attention to vehicles coming up behind.

I had a very close shave with one down by Lake Manapouri (gijoe can testify, as he was following behind going ). Coming up behind and approaching an uphill right hander, all is well, I take up a position just left of centre line. I'm metres from the cyclist (their companion 10m odd further ahead) when they suddenly veer out to the centre line. Why, no idea, no time to think, I'm on the brakes as hard as possible to avoid running them over. I consider the oncoming but discount in case of oncoming vehicles and as I close up behind the cyclist (just slowing down in time) a car comes the other way.

I move pass, trying to get the seat out of my arse, and when we left Manapouri they came in, gave me a bit of a feeble wave... Pretty sure they were tourists and it was accidental, but who cares, it was so god damn close.

Before motorcycling I was a competitive road cyclist, so I can see both sides. There are baddies on both sides... including cyclists I have seen deliberately try to block other motorists... pity they've never tried with me.

They wonder why other road users hate them. If I rode like this I would be killed.

There are many things that piss me (and you) off ... such is life.

The actions of a few (tosser ???) cyclists acting within (loosely) their rights as a road user ... is something we as motorcyclists (or road user of any type) have to look out for and live with. LIVE being the preferred option of/for ALL of the road users concerned.

I ride both cycles and bikes, and have done for 30 years. Cyclists have EVERY right to be side by side and take up as much of the lane as they deem necessary to not be killed by morons who have no idea what they are doing on the road. Just the same as you, as a motorcyclist have every right to ride in any part of your lane and NOT expect a car to be occupying it at the same time you are.

Hell.. if you cant wait a few seconds till you can pass safely.. GET OFF THE FREAKIN ROAD.

Honestly.. it drives me nuts. People trying to tell me how to ride, where to ride, and so on.. when you learn to not endange my life, I'll get out of your way. I had some yobbo yelling at me yesterday because my mate and I were riding side by side. The road was wide enough for cars to pass and still give us 1.5m (and they were)... AND HE WAS GOING THE OTHER WAY! If he had of stopped I would have inserted my bike pump into his rectum.

Anyway.. unless you are out there riding you dont see what we see, you dont know what we know, you dont know what the cyclist considers an acceptable risk, etc. The same things that apply to motorcycling apply to cycling. There are some idiots, and some times stuff happens that you dont expect that other people only see the tail end of and think you're being an idiot.

    (and what quickbuck said).
you sound like one of the fags in ya tight lycra gear thinking he is in the tour da france,
but really you and ya bell end mates are just a bunch of road hogging fuckwits and have to remember you dont pay ANYTHING to use the road on ya stupid lil push bikes so ya shouldnt be riding side by side and making people wait for you..!! you should be getting out of our way..

    Well, there you go.
I ride almost every day, across half of Auckland, and I try to be polite, courteous, and safe on the road.. And if I am riding with someone else, and its safe to do so, we ride 2 abreast BECAUSE IT IS SAFER. I also have all the proper lights and safety gear, because even though it looks gay, I am legally required to do so (fwiw, 55$ fine for no front light/reflector, and the same for rear). It pisses me off when people, especially motorcyclists who should know better, rag on cyclists. You'd be pissed off if I was telling you that you were an asshole for trying to stay alive on your motorbike.

I wont take shit from car drivers about how I ride my bike, and I wont take shit from car drivers or motorcyclists about how I ride my push-bike. If I make a mistake I am the first to admit it. But since I am still alive and accident free for 30 years, I'll carry on doing it my way.

The ACC argument is bollocks, I'm pretty sure most of the cyclists you see on the road would also own at least one vehicle they pay ACC levies on, not to mention on their wages. Based on that argument we should also ban rugby/soccer/hockey players who ignorantly occupy and prevent me from using perfectly good parks I pay rates for on saturday mornings, because they aren't paying ACC levies specifically for their chosen sporting activity.

I've encountered plenty of cyclists with a death wish, almost collected a lady when she veered across to the centreline on the summit road while wobbling her way downhill as I was about to pass, and had near misses with cyclists appearing randomly from the middle of bunches or on the wrong side of the road on blind corners.

I also ride road bikes, and wear lycra (cycle shorts are ideal for wearing when cycling, who've thought) but stay away from bunch rides except with people I know aren't suicidal and actually have some road sense.
Riding cheap crappy old bikes badly since 1987

ahh right.. self preservation is evil.

note: this thread is proof that there are just as many dickhead motorcyclists as there is cyclists. More.. even. Since most of us are painfully aware of how easy we can get hurt by idiots like ^

    .
By your argument because I pay ACC levies on my car and salary I don't have to pay them on my bike

As for the sports clubs they do pay levies in their fees.
