Didnt read the thread just the OP's first post,
I have a piss more immune system as it is, and I seem to get a real bad streak with the flu jab, Of coarse it is suppose to give you the flu so your body naturally immunises itself from the virus, but I seem to get one good hit of it, then another followed by another.
I had also considered getting it again this year, but as my partner is expecting, and isnt allowed to get the flu jab herself, it makes sense for me not to get it and get her sick anyway.
So short answer no.
Not really. The easiest way to explain it is that it's a hollowed out version of the virus. The outside is there but there is no payload inside. Sort of like showing the body a photo of the virus so it'll recognise it in future. The unwellness you may experience in the day after the vaccination is the body thinking ... "oh I've got a virus, must raise the body temperature etc to fight it'.
Grow older but never grow up
I didn't think!!! I experimented!!!
that would be another reason not to have the jab. Immunise yourself against one form of the flu but still vulnerable to another?
From what I understand the body can only fight off one virus at a time.
Oh wait!! ..... who is that four-eyed, balding, capped crusader on the horizon? Its HITCHER !! He will save us !![]()
I won't be getting the flu jab
I'm in a low risk group, and have a fantastic immune system anyway.
I've had what I believe was flu twice in my life, both times lasted 3 days.
'course the first day I literally could not get out of bed. too much muscle ache, shivering and such.
as has been mentioned, there are many strains of flu, several hundred at least.
what's interesting is that the vaccine gives immunity to only a small number of very closely related strains,
whereas catching and recovering from a bout of flu gives much broader immunity to the virus.
I've not had the flu in the last 10 years, and the last time I did get it, I was living on noodles, and three hours sleep a night.
To be free is to accept the consequences of your acttions
None so blind as will not see.
The vaccine is designed to protect against this years most likely strain of influenza. The other strain you talk about will most likely not appear until next year by which time another vaccine will have been produced which will not be the same as this year's.
At least that's the theory.

I'm actually with Hitcher on this one. Your comment and truth don't really agree.
I think an education campaign on how immunisation works is in order, the misinformation in some of the posts here is laughable.
That said, I WOULD get the flu jab, but probably wont...I have a pretty low risk profile.
Nail your colours to the mast that all may look upon them and know who you are.
It takes a big man to cry...and an even bigger man to laugh at that man.
The aliens are behind the whole thing, ya know, like in the X-Files.....
Reactor Online. Sensors Online. Weapons Online. All Systems Nominal.
The first (and last) time I (was forced) had one I got the flu. Never again!
