    Talking Speedway Sidecar Lunacy

Sorry if not correct forum, but I'm excited & need to tell someone...

    Aussieland

I bought a road race sidecar last year so I could swing. '84 GPZ900. Did a bit of Interclub, Intro Days etc. Was a blast. First race was at Phillip Island I just kept saying to myself... Oh fruck, I'm racing HERE!
Took it out for the Broadford Bike Bonanza (a 2 day expo of motorcycle sport) wknd last & managed to get a seasonned rider to spin 'round with. Was great for learning curve, as my rider is new to the sport.
... so I got offered a swing on a mates speedway rig... I'm hooked. I never knew there could be such an amazing feeling as having centrifical force sling ya back up from checking out the riders boots. HAHA!

I must of done OK cause I now have my first race this wknd... on an R1... too sweet too sweet

I'll post some pics if anyone interested.

    Well, thanks for listening
Is always nice to share when ya wet ya pants

    Ok... update time. Sunday 22nd

We were racing 2 bikes. A bucket & an R1. Alternating races. 8 races for the day.
It took a bit to get used to it. Race 2 on th bucket was great. Had a cuddle with another chair & their front tyre wore through my glove. I was concentrating so hard I didn't realize until I felt the burn. What a dick, aye.
Totally stuffed up the 2nd R1 race. Got out of cinque. It was so quick.
Rear wheel was worn & I couldn't get enough weight over the rear wheel for traction.
(race 5 of 8) Race 3 on R1 had a restart. So new rear wheel & chain shortened... we got traction... awesome start off the line, approx 100k/h into trun 1, then........

I don't remember it all. From what I've been told, another sidecar & ours clipped handlebars which sent us the wrong way & we got rear ended by the poor guys behind. They flipped. Both bruised & sore, but ok, thank god.
    I lost my grip.
I recall seeing them come off their rig... I think I was flying at the time. I landed on my back on the left side. I saw the other sidecar & thought 'I don't really want to get run over', so I crossed my arms while rolling, sliding & closed my eyes (cause we all know how protective that is haha).

I can't say enough how fantastic the race officials, ambos (3 crews at the track... was busy day) & my rider were. They took my jacket off in one piece for which I'm thankful. Ambo just cut the zip. My pants, not so much. Ash got the honors of cutting down the back seem. Luckily I put panties on when Ash said I'd get too hot in leggins.

I had suspected back & hip injury with tingly fingers so the ambos decided to helivac to Melbourne. I just wanted to get off the track.

Fracture to lumbar. Bruised sacrum & bum. Hyper-extended thumb. Bloody luck girly indeed.
Apart from that I had the most awesome day. Would have loved to finish the bucket races. Well all of them really. The adrenaline pumps like you wouldn't believe... everyone eats lollies like... well like lollies
I am so thankful to Ash for giving me a chance to have this incredible race experience (I can't stop smiling) & being a most caring friend.

Practice day coming up next mth, so hope to get more time on the bucket.

    So that was my wknd.
