Casual bike jacket

OK, so I have the bike sorted now I need to source gear.

I have a leather jacket which will work on most days but what I would really like is a casual look jacket that will protect me should the need arise. Yeah, I know this is a biker forum but my bike is my main transport and sometimes I just want to turn up without looking like I just stepped of the race track.

Any idea?

Thought he had a grey/orange moustache (grey because of his age and orange because he still smokes Park Drive)
The leather vest/jacket with 856 badges attached from the 856 events he has attended over the years.
...and the Lion Red induced waistline hanging over the faux bull denim jeans, which barely cover the 1970’s etched Tan leather cowboy boots?

That jacket would just not suit him.

tidier looking than a leather jacket,
But still has the denim brokeback mountain image with it.. might be alright if you own a Vespa?

Otherwise you could get the likes of upper body armour and a cordura shirt to put over top (you can get them for airsoft what not) which would be better than no protection what so ever and wear a suit coat over top or whatever it is you plan on wearing

Spidi, technix, Ixon, strada etc.. google is your friend to find a style you can live with. There are 'basically' two types of jacket in the 'cordura' made ones.. Touring jacket, long and covers ya arse when standing, and the blousson (short style) these tend to be more 'visually' fashionable and casual wear look.

Heres the thing: the things that make a jacket a functional motorbike jacket include:

short front, long back (esp in "sporting" styles)
usually tightish cut (esp for sporting styles) so they dont flap about and the armour stays in place
pre bent arms
pre-rotated arms (so they sit forward not hang down the side seam)
armour in the elbows, shoulders and maybe back.

those things are generally not what you want in a casual jacket. All motorcycle gear is about compromise, and usually the compromise is ultimate safety vs convenience. there are a myriad of options unfortunately, or fortunately.

What I have which is an OK compromise is a Triumph "Lawford" jacket. Its like that Belstaff Knockhill (which is a leather Trialmaster pretty much) but without the eye-watering Belstaff pricetag.

I use an Ixon skeleton for riding to work.. I wore it in the rain for the last 2 days... Wellington to Wainui' coast road... no leaks/ still dry inside! Just hung it overnight, and all day at work to dry it out (shell).
