I find this difficult to understand

This person pleads guilty to stealing 50 MILLION DOLLARS (yes, 50 MILLION) and gets some Home D and community service?

Yet if he had stolen 50 grand from his employer, say, or 50 bucks from a dairy he would see the big house.

I have to admit, I'm struggling.

Oh yeah, I enjoyed this article (even if it is on a commie liberal hippie website)

It gives a lot of focus to the middle-east - more impotant than any other topic it seems...

We'd need to read the decision on the Five Star guy because I'm with you, no clear reason for leniency. Of course the judge will have spelled it out but journalists...pppffftt!

But I dunno as to the other examples: the Criminal Justice Act requires the judge to look at every other sentencing option before coming up against imprisonment. I've certainly seen small time crims who continually avoided prison; and first-time offenders whoattempt to repay tend to walk too.

    Anyway, good post. \

Let me just say for the umpteeth time how glad I am to see that excreble misery of an excuse for an entrepreneur, Rod Petrecivic now languishing at Her Majestys pleasure. Shame we don't have hard labour.

    *any more.

there was a time. now instead of getting something back, we're paying to put these people up.

i think they should dump a truck full of quarry rocks in the yard every day, and the inmates have to make gravel for our roads. no tools -- they just have to find a harder rock.

even better than a truckload of rocks.
    truckloads of waste,
then let them sort it into recyclables.
if they dont want to, then confinement to a cell,

If the option for being a good person, is sorting garbage for 2 years ...might be a deterrent.
best retirement plan you can have is rob a bank when you loose control of your bladder,
Better conditions in a prison than in a retirement home.
But the human condition is greed......power over others....violence.....its in our nature.

    i actually dont believe this.
i mean, obviously, looking at business men, politicians and "world leaders" the overwhelming theme is: f*ck the masses, f*ck the planet, f*ck space, f*ck the ocean: git mo' money!
this probably applies to people who live in cities and drive 4x4s and have flat screen TVs, too.

but for many a guy and gal, i reckon all they's want is their needs met, they want to be happy and healthy and git on with it. they'd prefer not to sell themselves as slaves for 30-40-60 hours a week, but everything costs this "money" crap...

and i reckon the "nature" state is one of cooperation and mutual benefit, rather than domination..

    just IMO.
i could be wrong. i was once before.

+1... we do shit things in the name of money and some call it human nature .

Greed/violence/power is hardly our natural state, coz if it were, the the majority of people would be that way inclined... as it turns out it seems to be a minority who claim that to be the norm. How do we end up believing such bullshit?

    heres some cool facts, bro.

i ride my bike about 5-6 times a month.

    my bike does ~5l/100km

i also have a ute of similar vintage.

    my ute does ~12-16l/100km

i have exaclty fuckall spare money.
if you (or anyone else here) would like to donate me a more fuel efficient or planet friendly bike, feel free, then i will use that instead.

how does my making use of the best transport i have available, make me greedy, bro?

and i can promise i do more for this planet in a week than you probably have this year (and most likely any other), bro.

the other thing, brother, is that i'm actually trying live a better life, closer to the nature state (which i defined as working together for mutual benefit, nothing to do with capitalism, commercialism, "profit", world banks et al)
