    New here with KDX200

Just signed up to this site and looking forward to getting a few tips and advice.

I'm 47 and havnt ridden trails bikes for about 20 years so am looking forward to getting into some gentle trail rides.

I purchased a 2006 KDX200 2 years ago and it has been sitting in the garage since then (slack I know..!!) One reason is that I need access to a trailer in order to transport it in order to ride it.

I am hoping that the lack of use has not caused any issues with the bike as it has not been started for over 2 years. Apart from throwing some new fuel in it, can anyone suggest other points that may need attention after this length of time?

Another issue I have is where to locate an owners manual? I see you can purchase some sort of disc which supposedly holds the info but can anyone advise if they are any good?

    Thanks
    gary

    Welcome Gary!

Just drain the carb, use fresh fuel as you've already said...and kick it in the guts!

See if you can find a genuine owners manual via ebay etc, if Motorad can't supply you one.

Also give it some fresh oil in the box. Perhaps the brake fluid might be a bit stale too.

Look here and find a ride near you in the events section. http://silverbullet.co.nz/

Oh and don't forget to check the rad water.

    Thanks team,

I have just found a Service repair manual CD on ebay. Having never purchased a manual in CD form, has anyone had good or bad experiences with manuals on CD as opposed to printed documents....????

Before you take it near the track/trail clean and re oil the air filter as it will be dry as all the oil will have seeped out. Check tyre pressures 14 psi front & rear is a good starting point, start her up get it nice and hot change the gear box oil , check coolant level and your good to go.

    Check your spark plug too.

My KDX languished for 4 years & it started easily with fresh fuel & plug.

I'd rather have the genuine book on hand when getting grubby!

    Hi Gary,

I have just got myself a 2004 KDX200 and I do have the original owners manual...not much of a detailed service manual but does have the basics for general maintenance. I am happy to copy for you if you can't find one. However I have seen them on Ebay recently so you should be sweet to acquire an original for a few dollars.

These are great bikes and I have just given in my WR450 (2010) for a KDX...I know people will mock me but I like the weight difference and I am not a fast rider so the 200 will do me for now as I get used to 2 strokes. Up at Woodhill this Saturday around 9'ish if you fancy a ride.

As per the below advice, definitely dispose of the old fuel and make sure you use the best fuel you can get (95/98) and I have been told to run at 40/1.

    Cheers

    Nige
