I might be keen. I don't really trust myself over the hills in winter with all the gravel though. I still don't know how to brake properly on slippery surfaces.

Mmm fair point... I had not had any issues personally as I kept off the built up areas and combined gears with braking but we could change run if people prefer? I'm going to cruise over to akaroa this Sunday... will see how the hills are then

Can braking on black ice be done ? Would have thought you would have to be advanced advanced to pull that one off.

Did run in mid arvo month ago kiwi, gebbies, port levy. With the combo of black ice , boy racer diesel, ten speeds, between kiwi and gebbies and the cold from gebbies to port levy was enough to throw the knobblies on next day and stay off road for winter.

Talk about starting in the deep end

That's exactly why I avoid mountainous roads like the plague during winter months. It's not really worth the risk. I stick to the straight and boring roads during winter.

Yeah and to avoid having to brake on slippery surfaces in the location in question in the middle of winter what speed would you have to ride at ?

Would it be safer riding round the bays with the sea air having a rumble with jack frost ?
