She's coming back to me with info on the tyres since the bike was sitting around for 3 years, then we'll go further from there...
Seller has identified the front tyre as a Shinko sports tyre [model unknown] and an IRC Duro Tour tyre on the rear [model unknown]. Mechanic who did the WOF said the tyres still look good and have plenty of thread left in them.

But these ain't very good tyres, are they?

    Thumbs up

I've ridden on both of em and in the same configuration, they are not expensive tyres and they do not purport to be.
They work OK and if you've ridden with them on before you'd most likely do it again as a cost only exercise.
I've made the (OK Mike from DPC) made the call and moved me up to more expensive, better rubber and there is no question that I feel safer and more confident on them, having said that the old ones never let go on me and I never over taxed them.
If the rest of the bike is OK, it'd be a good choice, again though the other one looks like it could be a real jem.
Every day above ground is a good day!:

The GSX550ef had a shinko front that hadnt been used in the previous 18months. I gave the bike as good a workout as a old bike can be given without trying to destroy it and its seemed to stick well. I think shinko is Yokohama compound formular based maybe just older rubber type than most top brands are now.

I don't know anything about Shinkos but I've had IRC rear tyres on a couple of bikes when I bought them. I wouldn't buy one but if you're not trying to be a hero there's no reason to replace it before it wears out.

Taking a look at another GSX closer to home, and working out the finances, so it's "Yes but soon, not right now".

GS = 2 valves per cylinder while GSX = 4 valves per cylinder.

(Unfortunately, no-one ever told the 'Merkins).

    I had one also.

I think I also still have the workshop manual, if I can find it (its been through at least 2 earthquakes and two moves) its free to a good home.

    Just PM me.
