    Helmet shock...

OK - I'm coming up to needing a new fullface open road helmet. I have an ancient Shoei thas done bloody well really but the upholstry is getting a bit naff. (actually my boots and all my cordura leak now as well but what the hey)

As always I'm on a budget restricted by too many hobbies and an active interest in having a bloody wonderful time while I'm this side of the dirt coupled with an all to finite income.... So we are looking for a bargain.

Now having made a tragic and horrible Tee shirt mistake at Motorad I consoled myself by wandering over to the wall of helmets. Naturally a sales genie appeared like magic and my elbow with a not at all oily 'can I help you sir?' I was shocked - I think he meant it too...

Anywho - I picked up a BOX helmet having never ever really looked at one - I think it was about $150 which is measley money in the helmet world. It was actually pretty nicely made, well upholstered and looked like a $300 unit.... I tried to pick holes in it but nothing really stood out. It looked better than my old Shoei in every way for a pittance...

Um..... I wasn't going to buy that cheap a lid but I'm starting to waver.... Is the label the most expensive thing about some helmets?

Not always. But I've yet to find a cheapie that fits anywhere near as well as an Arai. So it's all I wear.

Here is my $130 LS2 *model: single mono 351. Terrific hit from a logging truck. No head injuries. I was impressed with this helmet the moment I first examined it prior to purchase.

At the time I may have been a bit headachy, but my head hasn't given me any trouble then (that I remember) or since. The following week was a bit hazy though and there was that nasty neck brace on briefly until they reviewed some suspected vertebrae damage. Mmm morphine anyone? Yes please!

I started reading and was think of suggesting an LS2 - a bit noisy but a good helmet.
Then I saw the picture and well bugger me, I'd recommend them.
Currently using Nolan N103 and an N43 but looking for a lighter helmet.
After seeing that I'm impressed also given that it served its purpose.

The biggest problem with any lid for me is my giant deformed head and huge nose. The always fog up cos my nostrils are only a mm or 2 from the visor. The Shoei fits OK but only cos the linings all collapsed in horror at the thought of actually touching me.

Best helmet I had was an AGV. It fitted great until the inner part decomposed and it went insane and decided to try and crush my forehead. Stupid helmet should have known better...

Arais are cool but waaaay out of my price range...

Not to worry, the great folks at LS2 have replaced it for free!
