I don't think even Spies can make the GSXR win at the moment. It's too old and slow compared to everything else in WorldSBK now. Leon Camier is riding the arse off the thing at the moment and getting nowhere. I'm sure that once John Hopkins is close to healthy again he'll override it to try and get in the top 5, crash and stuff himself up once again.

Good stuff. I especially like this bit, in hindsight:

Though it is entirely possible that Yamaha may decide not to extend Spies' contract, that it would be announced at Laguna Seca would be a form of PR suicide. Laguna Seca is one of the biggest events of the year for Yamaha, because of the pivotal role which Yamaha USA plays in the Japanese company's sales and marketing plans. Dumping an American rider at their biggest American event would be a faux pas of epic proportions.
    Indeed.

I really really hate to say this, but right now it's more interesting than the racing.

Found this comment from http://www.motorsportmagazine.com/ra...getting-there/ interesting

In Rossi’s first year at Ducati I was lucky enough to be at a fundraiser during the mid-season break where Burgess spoke for about 2.5 hours and fielded all manner of questions. On being asked about the quality of the Ducati GP bike he responded with a wry laugh saying “What quality?”.
He then went on to expand how even the simplest things like having a standard range of nuts and bolts attaching things seemd to be too hard for Ducati to organise, and how changing a rear wheel on the Ducati required 3 more spanners than on the Yamaha, and hence in practice they generally had one less tyre change available to them than the competition.
This is just one example of the complaints he had, but it says a lot about their approach.

Jesus sound like Lorenzo is almost opening the door for Rossi??

"It could be a good thing for Yamaha. We have been a good couple in the past years, but it hasn’t been decided yet. My preference is to have a competitive rival in the team."

To be honest it could also be he knows Rossi ain't going to Yamaha and he's toying with everyone???

Who knows but I think Id like the see Rossi fighting for a podium on another brand rather then a two brand championship next year.
Not much to choice out there for him really??
On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!

'Life's Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out! Shouting, ' Holy sh!t... What a Ride!! '

The reference to Croz was interesting.
It's OK to disagree with me. I can't force you to be right.

Yeah Bill, who could blame him if he did a Croz. Handful of money and his health.
A year off won't do him any favours, he'll be gone then.

If I was Lorenzo right now I'd be doing everything I could to get Rossi back in the factory team. I would want to beat him fair and square on equal machinery. Lorenzo is at the top of his game, and Rossi has had two demoralizing years fighting for mid pack finishes. Lorenzo could be the one to throw him a bone.... Bit of a gamble, but if you want to be the greatest, you've got to beat the greatest.

Ummmm...he's actually already done that. It's called 2010.
