The VT250F2 Integra was the gruntiest twin I've seen at a whopping 43hp, the 45hp GPZ/X never seemed like it. The VT250 Spada was 40hp, mine managed a metropolis toppling 36rwhp after a lot of stupid work.
Late model VTRs were down 33hp and below.
The "45hp" Kawasaki twin had a 14k redline, the rest had the 12k redline. The VT250 Spada still makes the most torque out of all the 250cc 4 strokes and that was only made between 88-89!

I have no idea why/how I know that shit but 250cc bikes have gone backwards since the late 80's early 90's.
You can blame government nanny eco horseshit for that. Emission regulations and beginner rider licensing crap has put an end to the fun 250s. I don't think they could produce a bike with those sort of power figures and still meet the stupid euro emission regs. And they wouldn't be learner legal in like half the countries out there either, which is a shame. A fuel injected IL4 50+HP 250 would be a laugh and a half. I'd buy one.

Thought I suppose you could always buy a 2smoker . Shame most of the good ones are raped and or way too expensive.

I had my Spada on the exhaust gas analyser a few times... I can vouch for the emissions thing! It was worse than a 3.0 V6 Maxima (VG30DE) that was before the nitro-meth mix too.
I think an FI 250 would be great, or new 400s, I love the CBR/VFR/ZXR/FZR 400s, buying a 3tj FZR400 is high on my to-do list.

Amen to the 400s too. Current 400 is an OK bike, but it suffers from some old bike quirks that I don't particularly care for. A new 400 in any of the bikes you listed would be amazing. You can still rape a 400 and be (mostly) legal. 100kph is 9k RPM or so in third on mine. It's a shame the damn thing vibrates so fucking much im worried it'll fall apart at any second

I have such a soft spot for the smaller capacity bikes that you can thrash and still be within sane boundaries. The current 600+CC bikes you cant' ride anywhere near their max on the road. If the 250 CBRRs weren't so old and raped by this stage (and expensive wtf) I'd totally own one.

Shame there's no market for a new 400 (or proper 250 for that matter). Only person still making new 400s are kawasaki and the ninja 400 is a colossal massive steaming pile of poo (203!!!kg and delivers a MASSIVE 44hp ) at 11k brand new. It's no wonder they don't sell any of the fucking things. It has a worse power/weight ratio then my 400

I found my '93 CB400 was a ton of fun to be thrashed, great power delivery and not an instant double speed limit. Took the 600 out for a tootle this morning, it's impossible to enjoy it at sane speeds

Have to agree with the new Kwaka 400, heap of poo.

I certainly wouldn't turn down a tidy CBR400... or any of the proper 400s for that matter.
But, knowing me I'll be buying an FZR400 to put an FZR/Thundercat motor up it

(way off topic here, but nevermind).

Any experiences with the Rf400s? There are some post 2000 ones around that are in pretty good nic.

My only issue with he RF400 is: the RF900 can be had for similar money and is a better bike in every way, same goes for the RF600.
My favourite touring style 400 would have to be the ZZR though, but I am biased.

ZZR 400s are fucking heavy aren't they? I was looking at em before I bought my current 400, and they were like 200kg which is sort of a put off considering they dont put out much power.

Course if memory serves you threw a 600 engine in there. That would solve the problem I suppose

Easier to walk around, lift on to the center stand etc than my CB400 was.
    I put a 600 motor in my ZZR400, that helped a lot.
They're 195kg dry, my ZZR weighs in at 175 dry currently

The 400 makes 58hp, and is better than the paper specs suggest. Very, very comfy bikes (mine isn't now)
