I dunno if the living room is a plasma, or LCD (definitely have two CRT elsewhere though) but I've fired them a message. I dislike those programing watermarks.

You're probably right there, much better technology overpowered by marketing for profit margins.

Haven't noticed any issues with the rings staying on our plasma when it's turned off, anyway I suspect prime just get the feed from whoever supplies it, and it's probably part of the licencing that the rings have to be on the screen.

Good grief man, television is not about viewers. it is about delivering audiences to advertisers. YOU ARE NOT THE CUSTOMER.

And you should watch better TV. Sport is not news. sport is not interesting. stick and ball sports are fucking boring. motorsport is approved. You may watch as much of that as you like.

I enjoy my stick and balls sports, especially when a furry hole is involved but that doesn't involve a TV, Mrs finds porn a turn off which makes it counter productive.

What channels don't have watermarks these days? Therefore if you stay on any channel too long your plasma will suffer. One of the draw backs of Plasma, apart from their power usage and weight.

There is not going to be any issue when your TV is turned off. The problem is when you are looking at other material with a light background and the olympic rings turn up. Have a look, and call prime if your not happy.

If it's about delivering audiences to advertisers, then why piss off the audience? Don't you understand that television is really a wankfest about who has the biggest and brightest logo and who secures the broadcasting right to the biggest events? (Look, mine is bigger than yours, essentially).

Just out of interest, where is the competion to SKY TV? Do they have a monopoly on their market segment? If so, is that legal, ethical and desirable? Should they not at least be required to break their business up into smaller units?

For all those who can't afford a state of the art plasma, tough luck but that's the way the cookie crumbles. The world is full of haves and have nots, always has been and always will be.

And finally, no I am not a shareholder in SKY

Indeed, that's life... fortunately state of the art plasmas don't suffer from this in any case. Of course, they're hideously expensive and all but out of production. Once the difference between an (admittedly expensive) LCD and a plasma became imperceptible to consumers, that was pretty much the final nail in the coffin... Panasonic was one mob that held out for a pretty long time though. Some people used to get wound up about black blacks, but the reality was that as soon as they used them in an environment that had ambient light, that argument was moot. Gave them something to wank on about though, even if it did make them appear clueless.

That is what caused me to find the Snake image. Every time I see the word "Beta" it is now immesurably linked with Snake and pronounced in his voice!

If it is red hot it is a plasma.

It's called the internet and things like TV on Demand (and torrents).

NZ as a whole just needs to raise it's average techno level so blistering fast net and basic computer competence across all ages is common enough that the idea of not having either is foreign.

Your kids kids may see the start of that.

I would think you'd find it's a requirement to broadcast those rings if you're broadcasting the olympics... It's a brand & like all brands it must be advertised! The rings have always been broadcasted.
My suggestion would be stop watching the olympics, I wish they'd just hurry up & finish anyways. I'm waiting on good programming like Doctor Who to return, bloody olympics pushed in-front & forced a delay on airing
