    Still tapping away.
I'm certain it's not a dead valve (unless it's so minutely bent that I cannot see it...)
It has to be the clearances!

    New rockers, rocker shafts, tappet/adjusters
Valve stem tops are clean and not all fucked up
cylinder head cover not warped and is torqued correctly
    New cam chain
    New cam sprocket
Tensioner changed, not a tension/chain problem

    the fuck... is... it

Could be valve on seat noise seeing as the seats are carbon free, as are the valves?
I'm almost out of ideas, I'm a wee bit sick of repeating everything on this wee motor

I could always put the original head on?

I'll swap heads over, maybe I've dropped a valve seat or something

I need to get some GSXR1100 1127 OEM rings too so I can throw the big bore kit in again

    Good idea.
Valve angles are the same, but I haven't compared the two sets of valves yet.
It was noise with DR rockers, DR head, DR valves, DR cam, DR valve cover, DR timing chain

It's the same now with DR head/valves, GN cover, brand new cam and chain, GN rockers

The cam followers on the GN are thicker and slightly bigger than the DR ones, but the rocker ario still looks the same between the two.

I'll chuck the GN head on it and see.
If it's still noisy then we know I'm fucking it up doing clearances (intake set to .05, exh to .08mm, factory says .03-08 in and .08-.13 exh)

For fucks sake, stand away from the bike when it is running. It is your fillings in your teeth rattling with the shear awesome power coming from that motor, thats all.

I knew there was a logical explanation
Well, it's not a loose valve seat, currently comparing both heads side by side
Doesn't look like recessed seats either.

It was quiet with the 300 kit in it, but there was a lot of oil going through the valves

Its not something like the speedo drive cos it is running without load? Or something that only sounds like the top end rattle?

Tach drive? Completely removed now, just the worm gear on teh end of the cam and that's not hitting anything
It's a very valve train esque noise... that's all I can say to explain it lol
    I'm fuckin' stumped now.

Running the GN head with cleaned/lapped GN valves, GN springs/rockers.
Have turned the engine over tiny bits at a time and poked the stem-rocker gap and clearances are as I've set them, no wider at any points.
Valve - seat faces are within spec, they measured fine too, seats don't seem to be recessed. (on both heads...)
    My only theories left are:
Valves need carbon on them to shut the fuck up
I should run some lead through it...
My feeler gauge set is magically different in thickness to a Suzuki recommended one (not very likely if I'm honest)

Anybody got any ideas? Think of a typical tappet noise, that's what it is, metallic ticking.

It would make sense that it's valve on seat noise, as I said earlier, it was quiet when the rings were fucked and there was a biblical amount of oil everywhere.

Quick edit, it's not my keys rattling before someone says it...
    They make a nicer rattle

Ipod playing Metalica through plugz for lugz ear plugs will sort out that problem.

Or Just maybe its just the loose screws in your head rattling when you are shaking your head trying to sort a non existent problem.

    Thumbs up

Does this old girl have a vacuum pump for fuel?
Could it be the diaphragm is buggered,? if so that's also the noise it sounds most like. I know on me coal burner if they are perished or not working the noise is as if there's a tapping coming from the tank..Yep that nosy. $50 NZ and here from Motherland in les than 1 week, shut her up beautiful, course got whole tap rebuild kit. Took about five minutes per side, quiet as a church mouse now.

Otherwise if it's fuel pumped, perhaps the pump itself is a bit noisy.
Every day above ground is a good day!:

Gravity feed, no vacuum or anything Just an on/off with a sediment filter, so it will catch fire when it's got the big bore kit sorted and I flip it
The noise is from the head area and sounds more exhaust side than intake side.
I'll chuck a wee bit of 2t oil in and see what happens, 100:1 should be about right.
It'll give me jetting issues if I put too much in
