Whats funny is most 99% of the haters, nay sayers have never actually ridden one.
Compared to a middleweight sprot bike or larger? no they arent 'fast' but they are as quick as most 800cc plus cruisers. They lean away from corners like a car? and no different from a motorcycle sidecar 'lifts' the chair wheel, going round a left hander. I've ridden several thousand K's on one, with one, or pillion on one.
If you bother to read some of the letters from owners, as has been pointed out, many have been amputee's or injured riders, who have been given a 'second chance' to ride again, when they believed they would never be able to, ever.
OK they have the disadvantages of a bike. (exposed) and the disadvantages of a car, stuck in traffic... but fun? if you can ride a quad, you can just about instantly leap onto a can am and get going... if not? they like any new vehicle take adjusting to... but once you have??
What makes me 'smile' is some of the same people who have 'moaned' about the Harley Attitude (waving) are now spouting the same shit towards the Spyder riders!!!

Yes Im sure it would outperform my sporty.

Particularly if I'm the one riding the HD, your Nanas Nana will ride around the outside of me LOL.

Its fair to say that high speed, performance and braking is no longer my motivation for riding.

I have both ridden & pillioned on a Spyder a bit. Not really my kind of vehicle to be absolutely fair, but they are amazingly comfortable for the pillion! Several of the girls attached to the group I ride with seem to really love them and are not too keen on being a pillion on 2 wheels.
So, hopefully a new angle there.

legislation still exists that says seatbelts must be worn IF FITTED. so if you're rocking a 20s ford, you're unlikely to have seatbelts, and thus be legally free of the requirement ot wear them. (or if you have a panel van/ bedford with benchseats down the sides - rear occupants not required to wear seatbelts that don't exist.

Got That!! So if I order my 2012 Ferrari without seat belts & don't thereafter provide any for the car users, they will never be required to wear them by the law?
(Actually, I seem to remember that passenger cars away back that came out without seat belts had to have them retro fitted - there was lots of agro about it at the time. )

There's one in Wellington that parks in a popular central Wellington bike park, takes up the space of about 3 bikes.

Someone might like to do the maths for a normal motorcycle & a spyder.

ie the ratio: licence fee paid / sq metres occupied

Interesting point of view from someone today.

When the Spyders first appeared TPTB decided to treat them as cars. But then they failed all the WoF checks, coz they had no wipers, no belts etc.

So then they wanted them to be motorcycles, but they had too many wheels.

So now they compromise, meeting neither standard.

Makes no sense at all, so it's probably right.

Until a few too many born agains start crashing them

Then the ACC may make an adjustment for the sake of statistical correctness

Haters gonna hate when peeps strut their swag, but it's all horses for courses and at the end of the day, we're all on the same playing field, giving it heaps and doing the hard yards to bring home the bacon!

Can't we all just get along? Oh, the inhumanity of it all!

IMHO, drive what you wanna drive, ride what you wanna ride and don't try to kill yourself or others (unless you deserve it or they do ... god bless!)

Oh look, there is a fence I can straddle where the grass is green on both sides!

Also, do you give them the biker wave or is that reserved for two wheels?
