Infringement fees going up on public holidays

Heard through the grape vine that fines are going to have a 15% surcharge added on public holidays.

It's to cover the cost of re rostering road policing staff to long weekends.

Also heard that the surcharge isn't going to apply to donut vouchers.

So, a $100 fine goes to $115, but remains at $100 worth of donut vouchers.

No, that can't be right. We have been told many times, even by the police on KB, that no revenue collected goes to the police. So if fines are not used to pay police salaries, then why would there be a surcharge on public holidays?

With at least one of the Aussie states applying double demerits for public holidays it is so believable and special public holidays fines could be in the offing. Pity it doesn't actually save lives.

    Enjoy your donuts
