As for your specs example on phones, for those sort of devices it's the experience not the specs. Fact is Apple's pulling similar results with lesser specs. Your always 1st to point out how linux can manage that over Windows, but then seem to ignore the fact Apples managing it against Android.
Bit of an aside to your original question, but anyway. While this was previously true, Android and makers of phones using it have been on a rapid development, coming a very long way especially in the last year. Devices Apple are bringing out now are tending to match the market, rather than push the boundaries. Problem of course is that in a few months it will be behind again.

Technology like NFC are out in Android devices already. For Apple, NFC is expected in the next iPhone, as the 5 brings out their passbook/passport thingy...

To be honest, it was a bit of a dig at Wheedle (although I'm waiting for them to get sorted again), a little out of interests sake, and a little "mmm maybe".

I notice those 1-day ones have gone. $380 seemed good. 8GB isn't a problem when you have a slot, ya just stick all your media on the card and leave you apps to use the 8GB. That's the way I do it on my phone.

For me , I use an Aser A500 android ics ,aser is not so hot on the upgrades and after care bug fix, but cheap and for me very usable, Morning coffee , banging though emails , STL viewer KB ( but here is the let down , the browser is terrible, you tube takes an age , KB is a pain to reply to..... not user friendly IMHO ( usable ,,ok but could be better )

other than that it goes everywhere and the laptop tends to stay home,

Apple , nice software if you use it as intended, perfect for the wife who just wants to browse and email , itunes suxs goat ballz and even more so that this is a Linux household... ( I have xp on a virtual machine ...unclean , unclean ,,,,,)

    wife loves here iphone ...

Ok Got it, I feel Technology should make things easier, if it doesnt its no good, thats the way I viewed my Tablet experience with my requirements. there were about 5 things that it had issues doing, of those 5 things 5 of them I did regulary and it was bad at it, for example..........HDMI movie feeds, Loading Photos, It couldnt do Photoshop, kept losing Wireless connection even tho the wireless worked well with everything else.
Sorry for me it was no good.

I was watching the advert for some tablet tonight. Hmmm nice big screen. Why not make it an inch bigger? And perhaps have a fold out keyboard as well. There you, back to a laptop in only a couple of years. Saved myself from that particular consumerism wankfest.

Since people are demanding more and more features, that only increases complexity, and with increasing complexity, comes a bigger risk of cross platform compatibility and programming errors. Most of the time the problem really is PEBKAC.

LOL agreed. Admittedly a tablet is a lot smaller and lighter, thus easier to carry than a laptop. Wouldn't a net-book give you most of the benefits of a tablet plus a much better processor?
