Hitting like a girl a myth?

A cool vid on whether or not a woman (trained properly) can hit like, or harder as it may be, than a man.

This is not about feminism either by the way, my interest is purely fitness and science related.

I think her final comment is spot on.

Technique is everything ... it's not what you do, just HOW you do it ...

This applies to everything that those members of both sexes try to do ...

Thank you for that, what a woman!

She brings a few interesting points forward though, such as "the extent of the damage is up to them". That is so totally true, and often where people let themselves down via pure ego. In a fight IMHO, if you're locked in a hold and you try to force your way out of it, you are bound to get hurt. No point crying out foul on the extent of the damage afterwards.

I think I may have a new training role model.

the results are not particularly surprising to me that men and women are capable of generating similar forces - although I would point out that the guy took only the half step off the front foot to throw his punch, where the women took multiple steps, came off centre, and positioned herself where she could utilize a greater rotation of her hips and more forward movement of her whole body behind her punch - which would explain the 200 or so extra pounds of force - it wasnt a truly accurate comparison as each used a different technique - the woman using a technique that generates more force anyway.

Still, I imagine that if they were to demonstrate the same technique, i.e. no extra steps etc, there would still be a fairly similar power development from both man and woman.

I was going to post a clip from Lucia Rijker from 1992. She has USUPERB technique

Also from yesterday morning when I walked into a straight right from one of my sparring partners ( a lovely young lady called Joy), I can tell you she hits pound for pound harder than I do. (not that that is difficult)

that line about hitting like a well coordinated athlete is the key.

Aye, I guess her attitude changed after winning silver at the olympics 5 years ago... but without doubt she seems to have it all sussed. I saw an interesting prog on the muscle control of cage fighters a while ago. How they shift focus from muscle group to muscle group in order to survive a hold for long periods of time and sometimes find a way out or out last their opponent. The stamina they displayed was stunning.

a stone cold killer that'll stop the very second before she kills you? Oh christ almighty... my apologies to hubby.

I was once described as "built like a racing sardine", and hubby having done Jujitsu for years, I learnt real early not to fight the hold.

Used to make for some really enjoyable playfights though. Now, I really need to get back into shape after having another kid, and it's hard work. But no pain, no gain.

    What a load of shit.

She threw a massive left hook with a step the male fighters threw straight punches (against the dummy).

    Typical american shit television.

Put a trained 60kg female fighter in the ring against a trained 60kg male fighter, and see what happens. It's not gonna be pretty.

There are good reasons why most sane people recoil at the idea of men fighting women.

Give them both a rifle and put them a quarter-mile apart, though, and my money's on the girl...
