Why do they need a leader ... they are not going anywhere!![]()
All it will take is for National to lose a few seats in the next election, which is very likely under current performance, and the Greens will hold the balance of power in New Zealand. Though if Labour can't get its shit together the Greens might have a shot at being the opposition. When (who ate all the pies) Brownlee is rumoured to have stated (at about the 12:00 minute mark) in a closed-door meeting that the public won't worry about a bit of environmental degradation once economic growth picks up he is essentially throwing votes to the Greens. Just another indication how much off the mark in terms of public opinion the current government is!
I don't like Brownlee but he's correct. When people are feeling worried about their jobs and their families, they put aside nice lofty ideas like protecting the environment. It is human nature for us to focus on today and let the future sort itself out so in that sense the govt is very much in touch with the people.
You are right about the Greens: they are becoming the official Opposition. Good on them at least they generate some fresh thinking and new ideas.
National: people (and corporations) can just help themselves
Labour: want to help the people, but have absolutely no idea how
Greens: fuck the people, it's all about a pretty planet
We are soooooo screwed.............
