Rome was destroyed because of many factors not the least of them being the great westerly migrations starting with the Huns due to pressure from growing populations in the north and east. There were wave upon wave of these peoples on the move.

There have been quite a few Islamic empires and in general they were tolerant of other religions. During the 'dark ages' Europe was an uncultured barbaric backwater sitting in the decaying remains of the western roman empire and it was the Islamic civilizations that kept the torch of knowledge and justice alight. There was simply no comparison at this time between what was happening in China and the Islamic empires against the northern european ones.

Christian europe finally united militarily under an edict from Pope Urban II to attack the Islamic armies to 'liberate' the Holy land, initially at the request of the remnants of the eastern roman empire. This was as much about the power of the Rome church as it was anything else and yet another example of why the church and the state MUST remain separate. If you want an example of religious fanatics hell bent on slaughter and destruction then look no further than our own recent past.

There is a huge difference between Islam and the radical Islam we see in the world.

How long would you ask your neighbour politely to stop throwing shit across the fence into your back yard before you decide enough is enough? Oh...and before people start going on about how Israel are occupying more and more land...best go back to your history books and see who owned it originally and by whom it was taken. Further, have a look at the Israeli side vs the rest, what you will notice is that the land is well kept and well used (remebering it was absolute waste land when it was originally given back to Israel in the late 1940's which they cleared and made productive) where conversely, the rest is squalid, filthy and unused.

How many would want to remain as per pre-European times, with subsistence living? You'd be happy without pretty much everything you take for granted nowadays? Not even horses and cattle were here, travel was by foot, communication was by hand, technology was non-existent beyond primitive weapons and fishing gear fabricated from wood, bone and stone. Medicine was herbal and life-span was minimal by comparison with today.

Societies function similarly world wide whether primitive or modern. Mankind has an inherent need for certain civilised structures and my reference was to demonstrate the similarity with so-called modern societies.

The major flaw in your post is that Akzle does not have or believe in a society. He is an individual, determned to remain as isolated as he likes from anyone and any society. Especialy if he has to conform to the rules of society.

He happily accepts the benefits "our" society brings with it of course, otherwise he'd have to be honest and leave.

As for "them and us", JW's in Israel are a mix of all races, prior religions and classes of society. They meet togther and worship together behind physical protection, due to going against the grain of hate and prejudice around them. This is world-wide of course. We have no separation of race and culture, every person is treated as an equal with equal rights and respect. Women are treated with honour and respect, they have an equal voice and children are likewise treated with respect and dignity.

Just recall Rwanda where the Catholics slaughtered each other because they were of two races, yet both Hutu and Tutsi JW's defended, hid and suported each other in the face of death by refusing to sink to the same depths of racial hatred.

Don't confuse the facts with whether we are happier or better off as individuals or as a society by having these advances. The point is that this is what most want in their lives and would not want to revert back to those conditions. Some would, certainly but in reality how many do? Not Akzle for sure!
