If braking from a reasonable speed with purpose & you can feel it tapping your fingers at the lever they're bent. Dial gauge will tell you same thing. In a pinch a piece of wire taped to the forkleg, but depending on amount of float can be tricky, more-so on Brembos or racing stuff.

They'll warp in a week if pistons are dragging & 48k is certainly a reasonable innings as Imdying states.

    Well this thread is interesting.

After getting a new chain + sprockets fitted I was told the rear rotor "has had a hard life" and will need replacing very soon. Though after reading this thread and seeing the "pulsing" of the brakes...I've noticed when I need to be a bit hard on the front brakes there seems to be some "pulsing" going on.

Turns out the left hand rotor is warped. RH is OK.

I could get just one but something tells me I ought to do the pair - is that something talking sense or bullshit?

These items seem expensive to buy. Like EBC's are around $US200 EACH on Ebay.

I see Metalgear brand is available locally. Any good?

And because you're replacing the rotors that would mean you need new pads too right?

I recommend MOTOMUMMY in the states-just got some EBCs and Carbon Loraine pads for my k6. A bit cheaper than e-bay, 50$us shipping. Have dealt with them a lot-prompt with never a hassle. {and yes-do both with new pads.}-sorry

Not essential if your pads aren't too badly worn

But I recommend replacing them anyway...

A sensible clean up of the pads on flat sand paper would suffice, but if any wear that has taken it from parallel or flat & you're not doing the discs any favours, or the braking efficiency. As the disc suppliers don't know what condition your pads are they insist on new pads which makes sense. This indemnifies them from muppets using pads on the crock, overheated from binding piston & contaminated from a leaking fork seal then coming back saying the discs are at fault.

For the purists, consider on race bikes the wheels are continuously swapped & no one changes the pads at each swap. They do however do little (but hard) mileage have consumables kept in good condition.

The gixxer.com forums are great for that sort of thing.

Yeah - I posted on there too. Not that much response though.

On the SRAD forum I've had a hell of a lot of help, and ridiculously cheap parts (compared to NZ prices). I'm surprised you haven't had offers for cheap parts there.

Prices I was quoted were about the same as here...or more.

I replyed to you on the gixxer forum. If you get new, you will be hard pressed to beat the EBC prices on MOTOMUMMY and s/h oem rotors on e-bay are pretty reasonable, even with shipping.

I got Wave ones on my GSF650N .. Got them from SweetStreet in Hastings ( http://www.sweetstreet.co.nz/ They were half the price of bringing them in from England ($400 the pair all up - 800 pounds plus p&p from Pomlandia) and got them overnite ...

They are also silent (the standard ones had a swishing sound when not braking .. and a louder sound when braking)

    I'd recommend trying Sweetstreet.

Not necessarily but worth checking - I put on the new rotors without changing the pads and just gave it a few trips to work themselves in ... I got a few bright bands on the rotors where the pads were touching the rotors - which became a solid metal strip after a few trips ... as the pads and rotors working themselves in ... (took me a while as I touch the brakes maybe three or four time between work and home ... unless traffic forces me to brake ...)

I purchased of "Sportsbikenz" (based in the Manawatu) through Trademe. Bought a set of front rotors for my GSXR 750 track bike and have not had any trouble whatsoever. Reasonably priced
