Well said Jafa only, we don't Mentor, but there is always enough experience to offer up great advice to newbies, some have been riding since the 70's and 80's, Some do track days, Some often like to ride faster than what is expected on these rides. The pleasing aspect is that, all that attend, respect and show consideration to those they're riding with.
One thing we don't want, is for anyone to feel pushed..I do however, encourage the speed limit to be kept where possible. It's a safety thing.
You can book to come the day if thats what it takes.
But what I will ask, is that on a given day soon, you meet up with Mom and Myself and go for a wee ride?
Push yourself? Learn something and try it, maybe? Ruin someones ride = NEVER!. Exposure to something different, Yep that will happen if you are a newbie. No one will push you, or I willthem
Yes indeedy. I love the GN, but it needs to be ridden. Lets set something up![]()
Absolutely, sounds good guys. Give me a couple weeks though to practice? lol. I mean I'd love to come, but I know my limits. That said, every day I'm getting better and I'm out on my bike as much as I can BUT the fastest I've gone is 70kmph AND I'm a total newbie PLUS pretty much all my riding thus far is through lots of traffic and intersections, a far, far cry from open roads. If I'm not ready in time that's fine, but it will give me a reason to get out as much as I can, a goal if you will! Anyway it's over a month away, a lot can happen in that time, lol.
I have found and added the Sunday Breakfast stop to post #2 --->> http://www.bigjimscafe.co.nz/our-menus/breakfast-menu

Its a good road sure, but it does have a problem. When you are not in a gorge, the road is fairly straight and there are a fair few overtaking opportunities. But in the gorge they are few and very very far in between. For all of them, provided there is no traffic going the other way, you would be lucky to get more then one bike though.
This wouldn't be a problem if it was a back road out in nowhere, but it's not. Its the main road coming into new plymouth from the north. Everybody and their grandparents use that road. Grandparents who seem to think that 100kph is recklessly fast. Grandparents who, in the middle of the gorge where the is an actual overtaking lane (all 50m of it), will not slow down so that the big black commodore and a certain red SV can get past. They only caught you up and have been sitting on your tail for the better part of 6km. What do they know about driving?
On the other hand you do occasionally get the good buggars who will give you every possible opportunity to let you overtake (I'm looking at you, Mr. Maui Campervan rentals) but sadly he was the only one on both my rides on SH3
Don't get me wrong, it is a fun road and deserves to be ridden. You just get wankers on it who have this idea of self preservation or some nonsense like that.
