Mixed weekend for Round 1 of the Nats for Agip Bike.. quickly learning that much better prep is required for the bike from now on, and it needs a lot of work to get it up to standard.
Friday test session revealed the bike didn't handle right.. it seemed fine at Wanganui but I had put the weaving around down to being on a street circuit, once we got onto Ruapuna and it was still weaving around we figured something is wrong with the bike.
Mucked about with it all weekend but never got rid of the weaving around, found a host of problems to be addressed though (edit: one being the chassis looks bent, similar to what your bike looks like now scrivy but not as extreme, just a bit of a bow), luckily Phil offered to buy the parts and do the work as I had to go back to Dunedin and work this week.
I pulled the bike apart before I left chch and Phil now has the task of putting it back together with new rose joints and nuts and bolts to try and get rid of the play and slop we had in the front and sidewheel. Replacing the main bolt that holds the sidecar wheel hub assembly together, that had been stripped and munted and had started working its way out.. wasn't far off popping out and we would have lost our sidewheel! luckily Richie spotted it and we tie wired it back down so we could do the last race.
I also asked Phil to replace the bushes on the handlebars/steering stem and try and stiffen the handle bars up, the top mount for the handle bars had cracked on either side so I think he is making up a new plate out of thicker steel and another reinforcing bar on the left side like Nev had made on the right side. Hopefully keeps the handlebars rigid and secure. See how Phil goes with replacing the bushes though, he thought it might be a bit tricky.. See how he goes.
We also had to strip, clean and rebleed the front brake again as more dirt went into master cyl (no dust boot/cover) and the front brake and siezed on and was dragging. Took that caliper off and swapped it with the the handbrake caliper and we just did away with the handlebar lever and emergency brake option for now until we rebuild the other front caliper and then we can put the handbrake/emergency brake back on.
Bled the system and brakes did an OK job.. never went fast enough to push the brakes. Lapped at 2:05 all weekend.. A bummer as we were hoping to do 1:55 or faster with our new rear tyre and better traction. Oh well.
Couldn't seem to get the brake bias working either, you can put heaps/majority to the back, but the best we managed was about 50/50 to the front.. disk was cold to touch when we came in after some playing with the bias (like pinky) and on the second outing with the bias wound to the front as much as possible the disk was a bit warmer but still not putting more to the front than the back. Another item on the list..
Gearbox got stuck in one gear on the last lap or two and during the warm down lap after last race.. couldnt change up or down at all, even phil tried helping with his hand but we couldnt get it to budge and change gear.. after the race and once engine cooled it seemed to be able to change gears again - might be on its way out..
picked up a spare FZR motor tho.. its all there except one conrod is poking out the crank case.. I'm looking for an FZR or YZF empty crankcase and then with the spares I have at home I could start putting together a spare complete motor for the bike - would be nice.
couple pics..
.. nope no pics actually, internet not playing ball at work
Im still trying to borrow a trailer, people seem reluctant to lend them out now
Ive just been trying to learn how to make the brake lines, apparently brakes are required
Hows yours going?

haha, bring your leathers and pilot the agip bike around for a race at levels bro! wouldn't mind seeing it on the podium wearing my transponder..
haha fuck off, still came 7th in the last race, as Harris would say, 7th fastest in NZ (leave out any other details of course)
haha... hmmm.. I don't think I had anything to do with that though
