I have been talking to other tennants here at wigram lodge, who work on road reconstruction gangs. There are road works, IE resurfacing being done on the Hamner side of the lewis this week, and also between Westport and Greymouth. I have asked if more specific information can be obtained from the Roading managers. I expect to be able to give a more informed report tomorrow night guys.

Iam riding over Friday on the wee putter scoot , but will probably be doing it on my ace, as my speed will be lower than most of you guys. .Taking the same route as you though, just 20kph slower.

And some major resurfacing just west of Springfield, and a few scratchy bits between Bealey and Arthurs Pass where there is cleanup work after some slips across the road last week.

    Saturday Morning

Just watching all the threads...Not sure about meeting H and G in punakaiki? that seems off route unless you plan on heading right up to Westport. Not sure where you plan to go D ...

Suggest maybe leaving early saturday, via reefton, through to Grey and down to Hoki missing the bad road from Westport to Grey. Say at the Peg in belfast by 0830 or is that too early for some? lol just be nice if we take the long route to be there by 1 to set up and enjoy the activities.

    what say you all?

well... not saying this is what we will be doing, BUT the usual and believe me it is the best riding NZ can offer is...
    peg
    lewis
    refton (brunch at Dawsons saloon)
    Inangahua
westport (and this section is just motor cycling at its best)
    Greymouth
    Hokie
    woodie

all weather permiting of course cos I hate a dirty bike and wet nads.

Yes had someone today saying if you are going to take the long route you might as well go through inanga and puna...sorry for this newbie's silly comment, just so long as there are plenty of gas stations, the Z only has a 10L tank...oh and i'll need photos along the way :P

Good idea, Now seriously going to need to look at saddle bags and pack to fit all this stuff....according to the specs I just researched it should be a 17L tank..something is not adding up here!

Not 10L to fill from reserve is it?

My saddle bags are currently installed on someone elses bike, I'll see if I can borrow them back for the weekend, between them and the pack rack you should be fine.

Talking to my Issac Construction road crew man here this morning, Resurfacing of chip seal between Hamner and the Engineers camp.
So be aware of loose chip section there.
Up grading of road surfaces between Westport and Grey are not due to start till the week after Woodstock. Should be able to have a good ride down the coast with clean clear roads.
