To do long rides, take a lot of building up for. Keep clocking up the Km's with increased distance on most of the rides. The first BIG ride does take it out of you ... but you will feel longer rides easier even now. You now know some of the problems you will face ... and are prepared.

biggest day is @450km leaving @9am means you have all day to do it, very doable in my book....

Yeah definitely achievable, with all the breaks along the way. And its light till about 9 just in case there is some delays.

Very doable indeed. But as many riders just starting to do big km trips ... often find it's a mental issue, not a tiredness issue.

For me ... 450 km's is not even a half day ride. From Paradise to Christchurch is 450 km. Two tanks of gas. (and have done it in 4 1/2 hours ... easily)

With less worry about how long you're taking ... and how far still to go. To relax and enjoy the ride ... and just worry about the 100 metres directly in front of you .. The km's fly by.

So, are you coming or what? I don't see your name down there...

    Hi everyone,

JafaSaffer, told me I should look into this topic a while back and due to circumstances I haven't gotten to it until now, this sounds like an interesting trip to do and always more fun to ride with others then alone

Just the accommodation price holding me back anyone that might be interested in sharing the cost of any of the options that come with an ensuite?
(yes i like some luxury )

The only really winding bits are Awakinho Gorge and Mount Messenger and you get a break between the 2, but the road surface is ok. It's a 4 hour trip at a steady pace, so with the breaks and people around you it should be all good.

Would be nice to meet up part way with some people riding down....but wouldn't want to hamper the ride by adding too many bikes in.

Pacific motorcycle club are running that particular one when this ride is on. Pay your money with a bike that is race ready and should be good to go.

Yes it is a Pacific run event. There is a track day on Saturday and race day Sunday. Anyone can enter the track day.
Pop over and say Hi if you make it to Taupo, Grant.

With the size of the attending list, it's quite likely Maha will split it up into two groups. So if you brought even say, 10 bikes up, I suspect that will just be made into another group (Maybe 1 or 2 tagging on to the existing groups)
