Most of my "moments" could be considered memorable ... had I the memory to to remember them (all). And anybody that tries to recount them ... it's all lies ...

Being old (and grey) has has it's advantages ... and that's the story I'm sticking too ...

in the 80's I stopped at the lights in Remuera on an XS650, went to put my foot down and my shoe lace wrapped around the peg. My foot couldnt touch the ground and I was already starting to lean the bike over. Down she went with me underneath

Well, I guess I'm also old and grey, but I can remember a couple of your moments. Like the last time you entered the 1000 miler and....

Well maybe I'll just save them up to tell at the next KB rally.

Selective memory is common in "older" riders ...

Blonde moment? Forgetting my sense of occasion and telling blonde jokes in front of very smart blondes. I discovered that they didn't appreciate that, and I don't blame them.

I'll introduce you and you can ask them yourself.

Parked my patrol bike on the Southern kerb of Victoria Street East, just West of Albert Street. Reversed into the kerb, intending to sit on the bike and bust anyone who blew the red light travelling South on Albert. About late 1989, early 1990.

Anyone who knows that intersection knows that it's steep downhill toward Queen Street.

Thing is, I put my left foot down to steady myself, something I've always done. Sadly, there was a deep drain there, and my foot went into fresh air. The combi of the steep slope down to my left and the very low drain cover caught me out.

Soon I was lying on my left side with the R80RT-P lying on top of me, and passers-by wondering why I had chosen to park with the bike on it's side, and me under it.

A nice man eventually stopped and help me lift the bike off myself. I then rode off, feeling like a total chump. Totally correctly so, I might add.

oi.................i just bought an ex mot R80............74pli.................did you crash my bike

Nah, mine was 5QMJ. I'd be surprised if 74PLI hadn't had a lie down at some stage though.

When I was despatch riding got to deliver to Buck Palace so rode up to the main gate, ever so cool, stopped next to the Police guard who spent ages doing a radio check. Anyway clearance came through so I parked the bike right next to Guards, police security and with about 5000 tourists looking, turned round and walked straight into the main gate bashing my visor then had to walk the hundred meters or so across the courtyard with everyone laughing.

While visiting AK, met up with a mate, we drove to his local video shop and he asked me to drop one off for him. I got out car and went in, dropped it off, came out and jumped back into his car, except it was not his car! A rather startled large Maori guy looked most surprised, we both started cracking up, as did my mate in the car behind him, DOH!
