Does anyone remember the year the sidecar joined the spectators coming out of the hair pin at Paeroa years ago?, wasn't a pretty sight( mind you that was due to wheelspin by the looks)

I think something broke on it causing it to turn 90 degrees into the crowd, it's on youtube somewhere

I remember it going sideways really quickly, bugger... Me and a mate were trying to figure out what year it happened... Bit hard when you've been to all of them and been pretty well tanked by the end of the day

It shouldnt be hard to work out. Both the outfit that did it & the guy in the crowd that it hit will be out there racing at Paeroa. Im sure someone can fill in the blanks. Oh, the rider, Westie, in that crash will probably be spannering for Nick Cole or a Honda superbike, name avoids me at the mo.

About the 3 mintue mark is the crash, the bike leading is the bike Fast Eddie has now

This is Fast eddies bike getting rear ended when it stalls on the grid a few years back

Ask me...I was there. It was Westie and the year was 1992. We came around the hairpin to see the tail end of the accident as he and Cameron Smith disappeared off to the right hand side through the fencing (made of panels from packing crates from the Toyota assembly plant in Thames). The reason for the crash was a broken steering rod from memory and he was desperately trying to steer out of it. Westie ended up head down in amongst the fairing and front wheel when he hit a corner brick wall which was the entrance to a shop. Cam ended up skittling a bystander and broke the guys leg. He was okay, although Graeme Cole and I thought Westie was dead because he wasn't moving he actually walked away unharmed apart from cuts and bruises. Robby Shorter has just rebuilt that sidecar and I'll be Safety Scrutineering it tomorrow night so he can race it again at this coming Paeroa hope thats not a repeat

Yep, it was Cam Smith, (otherwise known as horse) he dropped into work a few weeks back.
The guy that got nailed in the crowd was Aaron Lovell, he has just returned to sidecar racing after a long break.

Just got back home from dropping off the sidecar to Phil. I gave him this kit and said he'd be able to use it to fix it......... as the chair wasn't that bad.....
