I didn't need trainer wheels for that bit as the foot pegs were digging out the side of the rut, it was later I needed them

1500ks later and I did find that ratio a bit short for the road work - it just felt a bit unkind on the bike. I've changed up to 14/51 and that's much better. 115k is now just off idle and the engine sounds at peace :-)

Nice vid TA, those crossings on the Awakino were deep aye, one was right up to my seat and I could hear the exhausts bubbling under the water.
I'm surprised that mountie and myself got through them without incident.
My chain came off at one point and made aweful noises till we got to Alex where the nice man at the bike shop fitted a new one late in the evening.
Mountie found this pointy rock that let all the air out of his rear tyre on the last crossing so we took a while up there.

Great job on the camera work as always TA. I noticed lenses aimed at me a couple of times during the trip. No idea who they were but, assuming my riding wasn't so boring as to have been deleted, it would be great to get one of those.

You'd better post a pic of yourself and bike from the ride to help us identify you.
Unfortunately while I can identify with the online name cold comfort I don't have a good solid real world image of you in my mind... as with so many others and KTM's mostly look the same to me.

Heathen - You only converted to a light weight modern trail bike because you rode my KTM!

If you ride a largish bike, you can skip the challenge sections and still have a challenge. Mind you, there were a handful of people with large bikes, who thought they were trail bikes and rode them accordingly. Lots to learn for me.

Look at Woodman's avatar and see if he's the sort to skip a challenge section

Nothing to do with avatars, you cant buy pontoons for KTMs and he has shortened his nose already the blood shows up worst on orange than tractor red

That'd be Richie Ebbett, he runs Moto SR Suspension in Whakatane, 71 Commerce St ph 07 308 0310

I reckon it's a toss up for hardest core adventurer award for the DB1k 13 between Richie's missus for doing the whole thing on the back of an XR650R or Murray for piloting the R1200GSA over the Awakino.

    Cheers

Cheers Clint - thought the guy on the V-Storm worth a nod too

Best "back-end" I've ever seen on an xr650 - would have to give it to Richie's missus

Take it he not a member on here ?
