Feelers for a ride to Kawhia, mid April?

    How's it going everyone.

Was thinking of doing a ride from Auckland to Kawhia mid april, likely the weekend of the 20-21st, was thinking of doing an over night trip staying at a back packers and then heading back on the sunday.

Thought this could be a very fun route, I have ridden the road from tuakau out to raglan and it was much fun in the past, and I have recently been out to kawhai and the roads were in pretty good condition.

With this route we could stop in whatawhata for petrol and refreshments, or we could hold of till pirongia and stop for fuel and coffee's there as I know there is a very nice cafe in there also.

This ride would likely not be super learner friendly, but that really depends on how competent you are, if you are reasonable through corners and are happy at 100-110 on the open road you would likely be fine.

Anyways let me know if you have any idea's or would be interested, there is a few packpackers around kawhia and before so if people are interested I will start doing calls to them and find out prices etc etc.

    Cheers

    Jason

I might be keen to meet at Whatawhata or Pirongia. I'd most likely head home same day, though might think about a stay. They are nice roads. I'm no speed demon, but shouldn't lag too far behind. The stop at the top is worth it for the view.

I will confirm for sure closer to the day, but I am keen to ride that road again!

While there is gas a Whatawhata there is not a lot in the way of refreshments.... depending on your definition of refreshment of course.

Sounds good mate, I don't ride at the speed of light, generally stick to 100 on the straights, just like to go quick around the corners too so i doubt you would be far behind.

I went down to Kawhia 3 weeks ago for some time off with my girlfriend and had never been down the road before and all i could think was why oh why am i not on my bike.

Yep for sure pirongia would be better for food and coffee etc, just wanted to make sure people on 250's etc knew how far away gas would be if they needed it.

That Kawhia road is a great ride. The road that goes off to the left before Kawhia to Pukeinoi and around to Waitomo is also really cool. Not as good surface but still tar sealed just need to watch out for rocks, cows, sheep and hawks on the road .

Interested, but I'll have to see. Maha I think is planning a ride around that time which I'll definately be going along on. It's all up in the air right now though

Good to see so many people interested already.

if there are other rides people are going to organise on the same sort of date then we can work around that and go earlier or later.
Just realized also will have to change the date anyway as the 20th is sabbath

Will work out details over the coming weeks.
