How about one of them newer (pre-BMW) Minis? A mate had one a while back, ex Japland. Picked up fairly cheap, had a hot 1275 in it with a real happy sounding cam

ok going way off topic but... we have a 05 swift, yip the buggies fitted in the back sprogs in the middle and altho the suspension is rather soggy it does mean burn outs, handles like a kart and sits on 160 easy as, a good deal for what they cost.

A fine family car. The Turbo was well ahead of the competition in it's day.

Provided you have a good supply of epoxy resin, the annoying rattles can be easily remedied

And it will even come with an MG badge.

Pug 405s are pretty nice? As are the little 306s, gorgeous wee things. I myself would love to have a 1.9dt 306, then get the GTi suspension up in it

Some AUDIs are worth looking at, they do tend to have common problems (in my mind, common issues are better than random ones), if you're looking at the 1st gen A3, make sure the trans services are documented and if it has more than 100k on it, ask if the ABS unit has been repaired or replaced, I fixed and ABS unit in one for a mate, usually they'll get replaced, but you can re flow the solder joints in them and replace a few various bits and bobs
They will throw air bag lights, but usually that's in 2 door models (same as ze Beetle) because folding the driver's seat forward eventually wears the loom under it

Nice wee cars to drive, and essentially the same as a Golf

There are many oxidised ones at around $250 a pop. May need a push though.

In my Dad's yard under an old car port, there's a seriously rusted up 1964 Hillman Superminx.

There's also a 1989 Renault Espace.

I think I'll pass on those, but I will certainly be searching on autotrader.co.uk and also ebay.co.uk before I go over.

I had one of these. 300,000 Km on the clock but ran like a charm. Had to unload it when I moved over here. (Still waiting for the money, but.)

A mate has a Citroen Xaria with the same running gear, but compared to the Pug is as gutless as f**k!

Is it the 1.6 D16 Honda? They're a bit lacking with an Auto on 'em but the motors are solid wee units.
Fun fact, they use the same rad fan switch as a ZZR600/400


The Pug will be far more entertaining, but check them both over. The Pug needs to have had a recent cam belt and a good history with the auto box, they also develop many interior rattles, but they're sweet little cars for the coin!

I'd be swayed more towards that Rover, purely because I'd much rather turn the key on a D16 than a Pug without stressing
