Nek Minnit a Honda 1100 cruiser arsed off the road in the Manuka Gorge the following day.
Too long since last ride (decades) on a borrowed bike, veered to far to the left on a right-hand bend, hit loose grit on the left of the fog-line and ta-da, shower of gravel and bits of bike and he came to rest.
Bump on head (a tad concussed) and lots of gravel rash where his jeans failed to handle the friction.
Jacket and gloves saved the rest of him.
Winding up drongos, foil hat wearers and over sensitive KBers for over 14,000 posts...........![]()

back to the R1, how badly fucked is it?
Ok, I've just punched this data into a calculator. An experienced rider on good tyres on a dry surface, and with a perfect braking technique would stop in 43 meters from 100 kmh at 0.9G.
The same rider travelling at 120 kmh would still be doing 66.3 kmh at impact.
However it sounds like he wasn't an experienced rider, so lets work on only 0.5 G.
From 100 kmh he would still be doing 66.3 kmh at impact, the same as an experienced rider at 120 kmh.
To stop in 43 m the inexperienced rider would have to be going no more than 74 kmh.
So my guess is that the police estimate of 100+ would be fairly close to the mark.
