Not enough entries as yet to run a sidecar class at Taupo or a few of the others

I had Andrew from Vic club on the Phn a few nights ago. We had a quick head count of who hasnt entered yet that is going too & we will be fine. They just need to send their entries off now.
I guess gordy will enter when his tag & logbook arrive from Kurdistan. I put the paperwork through to MNZ a week ago, fuck knows what takes so long to drop something in a courier bag from Huntly.

It's an interesting subject as sidecars are so, well, different.
I'm musing over what makes them good and/or bad.

I had another swing and a drive (if that's what you call it) in the weekend and had a real laugh, even pranging it was fun.
It's really cool being on something that is so fun where there is so much scope for refinement, it made me want to do laps all day.

So yeah, basically any wisdom on construction and proportions would be interesting to mull over.
I'm sure the bucket rules cover the dimensions, if not give Brenton a yell he pretty much knows all the specs by heart. Don't think we got your crash on video so we might have to get you to do it again, it looked awsome from where i was standing. I take it the short one with the intricate build your talking about is my hub centre steering one. It was built off a set of LCR plans and scaled down but yeah is a bit of a challenge to set up. Will have it at Tokoroa if you want to measure it and take photos. There are a couple of other short type chairs under rebuild which should be up and running in another month.

Practice 1 Sidecars. Hampton Downs top ten
    1 93 Aaron Lovell/ Dennis Simonson 00:01:11.743
    2 4 Spike Taylor/ Astrid Hartnell 00:01:14.643
    3 18 Barry Smith/ Robbie Shorter 00:01:15.375
    4 45 Grant Waters/ Matt Gibbs 00:01:16.463
    5 111 Peter Goodwin/ Darren Prentis 00:01:19.054
    6 16 Michael (Burt) Wolland/ Maxine Skilton 00:01:20.641
    7 28 Tracey Bryan/ Jo Mickleson 00:01:21.372
    8 41 Chris Lawrance/ Richard Lawrance 00:01:22.795
    9 2 Adam Unsworth/ Stu Dawe 00:01:22.943
    10 84 Corey Winter/ Tim Shepherd 00:01:23.282

I'm guessing the Lawrances and Adam/Stu are scrubbing tyres in that session as it's a lot slower than they'd normally do

#NZSBK Q2 Sidecars from Hampton Downs
    1 2 Adam Unsworth/ Stu Dawe 00:01:12.513
    2 93 Aaron Lovell/ Dennis Simonson 00:01:12.617
    3 41 Chris Lawrance/ Richard Lawrance 00:01:14.342
    4 18 Barry Smith/ Robbie Shorter 00:01:14.793 SSR1000
    5 4 Spike Taylor/ Astrid Hartnell 00:01:15.404

    7 50 Des James/ Warren Miller 00:01:20.358 LCR R1 Yamaha
    8 111 Peter Goodwin/ Darren Prentis 00:01:21.331
    9 84 Corey Winter/ Tim Shepherd 00:01:21.716
    10 76 Bruce Roberts/ Jim Bilby 00:01:24.110 Shelbourne Suzuki 600
    11 19 Alex MacDonald/ Glen Mcdonald 00:01:24.450
    12 47 Barry Fane/ Aida Gulbransen 00:01:30.878
    13 69 Gordie McKeown/ Tina Stirton 00:01:35.471

With Grant Waters/Matt Gibbs a DNQ - waiting for find out why they didn't make that session, as well as Burt Wolland/Maxing Skilton a DNQ, waiting to find out problems going on there.

Those two will start from back of the grid I'm guessing, should be some interesting racing especially with those 2 faster bikes fighting through the field! this is going to be good!

also.. 15 sidecars entered.. thats more than superbikes go sidecars!

UPDATE: Grant Waters/Matt Gibbs are experiencing electrical and or battery issues and the engine will not start or run.. they are working on it.
Burt Wolland/Maxine Skilton had a flat tyre and missed the qualifying. Hopefully they sort the tyre out before race 1 approx 3pm

    3 18 Barry Smith/ Robbie Shorter
    4 4 Spike Taylor/ Astrid Hartnell
    5 50 Des James/ Warren Miller

    12 69 Gordie McKeown/ Tina Stirton
    13 45 Grant Waters/ Matt Gibbs DNF
    14 111 Peter Goodwin/ Darren Prentis DNF

EDIT 15 47 Barry Fane/Aida Gulbransen DNS?DNF - Not sure what happened here but notice they were not in the race or on the list... not sure what happened

That was probably the best race I have watched from NZ sidecar racing from the last few years! Fantastic dice for 1st between Lovell and Unsworth, a shame Unsworth came into some problems and had to drop off, Also a great dice there between the Pirate and Grant Waters, a shame they both DNF.. 2nd place is up for grabs! 1st is sitting with Spike for now if he can keep it together and keep finishing..

    Can't wait for tomorrow!

Hampton Downs Sidecar Race Result Sunday R1:
    • 1 93 Aaron Lovell/ Dennis Simonson
    • 2 2 Adam Unsworth/ Stu Dawe
    • 3 45 Grant Waters/ Matt Gibbs
    • 4 4 Spike Taylor/ Astrid Hartnell
    • 5 84 Corey Winter/ Tim Shepherd
    • 6 76 Bruce Roberts/ Jim Bilby
    • 7 28 Tracey Bryan/ Jo Mickleson
    • 8 47 Barry Fane/ Aida Gulbransen

Farm boys went well, Pinky was at the back of the pack for most of the race but must have pulled finger on the closing lap to claim next spot up. Their fastest lap time was quicker than farm boys though so not sure what they were up to or why it took them a while to get warmed up.

Lawrances looked to have pulled out after 1 lap - Saving themselves for the TT as Kick reports from the track.

Grant managed to catch up and pass Spike during the race.

Rest of the bikes DNS due to not having wet tyres (pour water on em, I know!)

All n all a nice little pootle around in the wet... next race coming up in an hourish I think.
