+2 on that, and will add that any other colour than black can become camouflage in the right conditions.
Even at night black can be readily seen more than some colours.
Then there are those who wear camouflage colours...really Camouflage on a bike?
I thought the idea was to be seen , not hidden.

All this siad by a man who now uses a yellow hi vis half jacket, becauses its fucking warm.

We as motorcyclists now have no worries about not being seen. The requirement to have OUR headlights on ALL the time fixed that.

anyway... those leggings were very good on my track day weekend. I also just bought a long sleeved top too which I'll try out Easter weekend!

Black makes you visible? Dont think so.

Well why do people wear hi viz to be seen then?

I dont get road coloured clothing making you stand out.

    Up to you.

Bandages are also white but I can take my leathers off when I choose. They are white/orange reddish.

you could wear a pink tutu, it won't make a difference, if people don't look your direction they are still not going to see you.
    Wish it was different.
I have a black bike, black gear. Yes I wear hi viz, headlight doesn't have a 'off' switch. but still people 'just didn't see you sorry'

One of ACC's own pieces of research - and on their website - says that black gear may actually be the best in rural situations because it stands out from the background much better than colours do ... and that plain single colours a better in an urban environment ...

The paper is actually mesy because it has several pieces of reseach which have slightly different outcomes .. but it is not so obvious that hi-viz is really best ..

... producing confusing and contradicting information, no surprise there.

At a rural petrol station the other day. I was just done and took of my glasses (I'm short-sighted) to put on my helmet. At the same time two bikers left the petrol station, one with high viz the other one in black. I was able to follow the one in hi viz easily with my eyes, but the one in black just sort of blurred into the road/tree background.

Another day I was in my car on the new SH1 around Taupo (ETA) I was able to make out a cyclist in orange high viz from nearly a km away around a corner. (Ok, at that distance I was wondering if it was a traffic cone I was seeing, but at least I noticed him )

So yeah, for me high viz seems to work, thats why I wear it, but I have to admit my black leather jacket looks much better without the high viz vest on

I'd rather be mistaken for a road cone than not seen at all.
And I like to think I'm better looking an a little faster than a road cone

Cones are orange though? same as stationary road workers... yellow is colour off choice/difference when it comes to hi viz on bikes.

mines similar to that, I was given a standard saftey vest to start with but because it was big and flappy, it acted more like a parachute. so my tight fitting vest is far better. and yes it's yellow

Hm, I find that orange hi viz stands out more than the yellow stuff. Yellow is too close to green and sun light
