The older bikes teach a lot about what it's like on bigger bikes. For example ... what heavy bikes at low speed feel like ... (without the handicap of horsepower)

Becoming fearless isn't the point. That's impossible. It's learning how to control your fear, and how to be free from it.

Nope. Absolutely no difference between the two, other than displaying a L plate.

    WRONG ... didn't you read THIS bit .. ???

    While on a learner licence:

You must only ride an approved motorcycle.
Your motorcycle must display a learner (L) plate - rear only.
You must not carry a passenger.
You must not ride between 10pm and 5am.
You must not tow another vehicle.
You face severe penalties if you ride outside the licence conditions.

Only difference seems to be the L plate? And, the severe penalties bit...

Wish they'd at least change the curfew or something if one holds a full license

    here's another Idea,
learn to ride first, a 250 Ninja/GPX/ZZR are quite 'adequate' they can 'just' do the old imperial 'Ton'.. your a learner, all you will do buying a sprotbike from reading your posts, is 'Cream yourself' over the road somewhere... Your 250 will out accelerate 80% of cars on the road to 100kph.. stop thinking with your ego, and think with the top 2 inches!!!

Do your time, get your full, THEN get a bigger bike.
I rode on my 250 for 5 years before I decided to upgrade... To a litre bike then a hayabusa 6 months later...

No difference except the L plate. You can't carry passengers.

I've got a Ninja too and yea it is gutless. But it's still a motorcycle, so just enjoy the ride and stay shiny side up. I don't know you, but judging by your wanting to keep up with your mate (whether that was a throw away comment or not, there will still be some truth to it) you would probably come off a bigger bike pretty quickly if you had one.

Enjoy your time on your 250, learn it inside and out, so that when the time comes on your full to upgrade you will be 100% confident that you can handle it.

As for the LAMS list, the Ninja 250 is easily in the top 5 from that list in terms of power, looks, reliability and maneuverability, in my opinion.

    Just ride what you want.

What happens, in the event of an accident, when his insurance claim is denied due to riding outside his license conditions?
