How about this? They are talking of a 15 year contract.
I wonder which National stalwart has his finger in this pie.

It would appear that no one gives a shit. Wonder how much the senior members of staff/the board are paid?
I didn't think!!! I experimented!!!
Grow older but never grow up
If that was the case, I wouldn't have such a problem with the proposal.
From what I've seen of this govt, I doubt that will happen. The money saved will quite likely get siphoned off in a different direction.
As for duplicating facilities, if you consider kitchens a unneccassary duplication, you could say the same about many other health services eg, laundry, analysing, maintainence, supplys, administration etc.
If a decent sized disaster hit Ak or CHCH, the remainder of the country's hospitals needs to be able to continue to function.

AAAAAARGH! Compass? Absolutely shocking quality of food! My current employer uses Compass/ESS as the catering providor offshore and the food is just rubbish: worst quality of meat nobody else will touch, fruit that has obviously been frozen/refrozen (brown fleshed apples anyone?), poorly trained/paid cooks from indonesia who overcook dodgy vietnamese fish until it it's indistinguishable from chicken etc etc.
Last night was a classic, everyone on nightshift just groaned when they saw the muffins for smoko: just as they always are the "blueberry" muffins were just bland stodge that tasted like flour and water. How can a professional cook, organisation not be able to make a simple muffin?
The food may well inspire people to get the hell out of hospital as quick as they possibly can, but from my experienc with Compass it definitely won't contribute to their recovery.
centralisation increases margins, so it must be good for everyone.
You want service? Fuck you, drive another 100km.
Moneymoneymoney! Growth! Capitalism! Debt!
Yay nz society!
And Comapss is not even a New Zealand company - It's a British-based multi-national .. so once again our Government is selling out to overseas interests ... any profits from such a deal will pour straight out of the country overseas ... So we get their crap food, our workers get paid crap wages (and many more people get added to the dole lines) and some overseas company takes the money out of GodZone ...
Just fucking typical ...

1) From what I heard the other day, doing this doesn't reduce 'Vote Health' so savings do go to other places within the health system. It was said to 'front-line' so hopefully this is what would happen.
2) Yeah well, perhaps some of those other things could follow? Good point.
3) Good point again!

Here you go; HBL Site with a "Statement of Intent" - The organisation who "facilitate and lead initiatives that result in savings and efficiencies for District Health Boards (DHBs) on non-clinical initiatives"

No body move... I dropped my brain
A terrible move. As said, hospitals need to function at all times and especially in emergency/crisis situations.
I am wondering, with an election coming up, if certain "things" are being positioned now, so that when closer to election time they can cancel proposals. This then allows the approach of "we have listened to the public - aren't we benevolent and worthy leaders - vote for us".
Entirely possible.

Hospitals are some of the most dangerous places in the country and most of them are run by the government!
Public service is one of the areas in which governments have the most immediate influence!
Consequently when the "electorate" demands a better return for their tax dollar, where do they (politicians) look first?
It's a no brainer IMHO .... what we need most of is less government interference and influence!
Socialists on the other hand advocate more and more state control!
In socialist's eyes, "individual freedom" is paramount only when everything else is controlled, regulated or prohibited!
Every political party on serious offer in New Zealand (and supported by the media) is "socialist by degree", you get what you wish for!![]()
The electorate is responsible for the government and therefore is also accountable for what the government does!![]()
