How many meth heads do you know that are not unpredictable and seriously fucked up mentally, physically and spiritually , not many,if any. And in my eyes they are a danger, not only to themselves, but me and mine as well. So fuck em, its a choice to keep using it, they and everyone else knows it is fucking them up, but they keep doing it.

I wouldn't know as I don't associate with hard drug users.

What ever happened to personal responsibility? People should be made accountable for their own actions, and we shouldn't need substance laws to do that.

Yes I do believe that. In NZ, we have a strong culture of diminished responsibility, and we are often blaming a lack of self control on a bigger societal issues. For example, instead of punishing drunk idiots for acting like complete fuckwits, the government has provided other "solutions" such as liquor ban areas, tighter liquor store controls, more restrictive licensed premises etc. These achieve nothing in terms of making people responsible for their own actions.

I wasn't suggesting that we make medical treatment any more expensive for people who get high. Should the government charge dirt bikers more money when they fuck themself up for choosing such a dangerous hobby?

Personal responsibility won't come about until people are made responsible for their actions. As long as excuses are made for them and they continue to get wet bus ticket sentencing, nothing will change.

Maybe if people had more self control we wouldn't have a problem but they don't so some things are band.

when was the last time you heard of a dirt rider selling stolen shit to be able to get a ride?

And yes you are right about the drunken idiots.

the problem is your right to have your rights infringes on my rights. comprende?

That depends what you classify as a "dirt biker", what about someone who steals dirt bikes so they can ride them? It happens.

Edbear is right on this one, read his comment above.

You knew what i meant and yes ed is right but who decides on the punishment?
me being a good right wing boy i say stick them against the wall and a good lefty would say they are misunderstood and should have a wet bus ticket and a cuddle.
So it ends up in the middle and is a pointless waste of time so laws are made to keep the majority of the populace happy, content and law abiding.

The drugs this particular prospect was caught with would NOT have been intended for his own use. The thousands of $$$ (and drugs) he was found with ... suggests it was the result of sales of the drug. Which is a whole different ballgame from "Personal use" ... and a whole different range of implications.

Trafficking is frowned on by most countries ... even those with relaxed drug laws.

Nothing will change that way except the poor will get poorer and the criminals will get richer - relative to the risk. Demand will not change. Look how well prohibition of anything has worked historically.

The issue needs to be treated medically not criminally.

300g of meth is a shitload! it gets sold in bags of 0.1g for about $100, or 1g for I think somewhere around $600-800. Nearly enough meth to buy a small house.
    300g x $600 per gram = $180,000
