Wow, when did playing a game to encourage people to get out on their bikes become so serious?
Let's think about the major points here. Does it really matter if someone wants to use an "archived" picture? Honestly? They went for a ride, they got the tag, they rode somewhere else. Someone else can ride to that place, get out on their bike, and get some fresh air.
If someone wants to cheat and put a photo up, which doesn't even have their bike in it because they didn't even ride there, who's lose is that? Someone else can still ride to that photo, can't they? Who's the one missing the point of the game?
When a game is running as slow as this is, can you really afford to be mentioning "angles of photo's etc"? I can understand if you had 5 people rushing out, like the early days. Ya gotta pick a winner somehow. But it seems to me that the rules should be taken more like guidelines at this stage.
Remember the idea is to encourage people on their bikes, have some fun, enjoy the ride.
Meh, what would I know? I haven't ridden my bike in several months
Oh, and free bump![]()
Ok, here's my bit.
I figured "never mind all the rules, just go collect the tag and move this on." So I got on the scoot and off I rode. Duly collected. I also figured the objective was to make sure that it could clearly be seen that your bike was at that place on the stated time. The angle thing is irrelevant imo, as long as everyone can tell it's the same place.
Then I went for a general blast, thinking on where I could get the new tag. The one I had in mind wasn't really suitable as there were a number of very large vehicles parked in front of the actual feature. Never mind, off I pootled.
Then it got to raining, that cold needle like Waikato rain we all know so well. Wet Bollox. The temptation, of course is to go directly back home and say "neener neener, got the tag, I'll post another in a few days time." Or even better yet, maybe post a nice sunny pic I took the last time I was out, or maybe the time before that? I got some beaut pics around Chrissy time, is that too far back? How far is too far?
Then I realised that is soft-cock stuff, and I kept going to find a tag. After all that was the spirit with which I originally set out. In my view using an archive tag might not be against any sort of rules, but it isn't 'cricket'.
As Ckai said, the objective is to encourage people to get out on their bikes, to me that means not to go rummaging through their archives for a good pic. So you went for a great ride last week and got some good shots, but you didn't hold the tag yet? Good for you, once you get the tag, go take some more shots on another ride.
Personally I'd rather see a tag of your bike in front of your corner dairy taken in the spirit of the game rather than a pic from that awesome run you did last labour weekend.
At the end of the day, it's all just a bit of a diversion, and rules aren't really required, but then neither are clever tricks for some kind of 'tag bragging rights'. Let's keep it moving.
PS I enjoyed the clues and the ride out to Opepe cemetery - great tag thanks.
PPS If it bothers anyone, be aware that there is a fair bit of moss on the road in the centre of the lanes out towards the Tag, also the dam crossing access is closed today and tomorrow if you are coming from the BOP side.

Getting closer! And still on the Waikato border. I think when I get a chance to get one of these I will have to find a border too! Maybe one a bit closer to home.
I guess the real question is, when does a picture go from a 'stock photo' to acceptable? What if I saw a great place to put the tag on the way to collecting this one and put that up? What if I only had a couple of small windows over the weekend, and got the new tag on staurday and collected the old one on sunday? I think if you got on your bike to go get a tag to post, and the timeframe is around the same as the 'allowed' gap for a follow up tag (a week or so depending on how nice we feel) then whats the problem?
Good going Smifffy with sticking with it rain and all the get the follow up! I don't know if I would have.Getting soaked really put a damper on my will to stay in the saddle. All I can usually think of at that point is - go home, get dry, get beer.
There are 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those that do not.
The "stock" photo that I used, for clarification, was something I took, shortly before I was going to go pick up the Orakau Battlesite tag. I had literally got almost all the way there when I checked my phone and someone had just posted that they'd picked it up. Anyway, I picked up a different tag a few weeks later at Woodlyn Park and posted the tag I was going to use after Orakau because quite frankly, I was fucking tired. Hey if you want to encourage people to ride even if they're tired and/or the weather isn't great and possibly put themselves at risk well then good for you I guess? I chose to ride home, because I recognised I'd had enough, and post a photo that was a couple weeks old and honestly - who gives a shit. I wanted to chuck up a tag that hadn't been done before and had a bit of history to it rather than parking at some rest stop next to some insignificant road sign, because, I thought part of the point of this "game" was to get out and see interesting/different places or things. And no, the photo that I took at Woodlyn wasn't at the same angle as the previous person but ffs - who cares? No, I wasn't going to park on the very edge of a road when I didn't need to be so close to it, tough. I understand there are "rules" but I would have thought that it was more important to encourage people to get out there, do something different, have a bit of FUN (which this hasn't been, in this thread, tbh), go somewhere you've never been, travel around good 'ol NZ a little bit etc. And to be fair, I'm a newbie, it's the first tag I ever did, I was still learning, I live on the North Shore, the fact that I have small children means I can't get out on my bike as often as some people and for goodness sake to attract so much criticism is beyond comprehension. Blokes, it's a bloody game, if I took stupid things so seriously I'd probably top myself. It's really just very silly in my mind and instead of being a whinging Nana I just think I'll stay out of your thread so... have fun![]()

Thanks for that, I didn't know that was out there. Not sure I'll be able to get out there to pick the tag up in the near future but it's on the list to check out for a day ride sometime.

You're right, it is just a game and is meant to be fun. It wasn't really a criticism, you invited the discussion around rules and what should/shouldn't be allowed when you posted the tag. I was just throwing in my two bits. It's not about the insignificant sign, it's about the ride to get there. I'm not encouraging anybody to do anything.
Like I said, I enjoyed the ride to get your tag, and the history and clues you gave around it. I also said I don't give a fuck about the angles, as long as its clear the spot is the same.
Sorry it wasn't fun for you, are you really going to take your bat and ball and go home?
Can we still be friends?
Keep on chooglin'
Haha, my post wasn't in response to yours, so don't worry - we can still be friends! It was in response to the collective responses. I do hope you walked down the pathway and had a look at the graves, not that it's much of a sight but I never knew about that place etc. so still nice to go there. It was fun for me, just the inane discussion afterwards was bewildering. Like I said, I have no intention of being a whinging Nana because bitching about shit sucks the fun out of stuff too
Anyway I still have to find a new tag for the NZ-Wide thread!
