K Tech sounds better and better every time Robert posts. Why is that?![]()
"That's rooted!! What's next??"
If you go back to the salient point that I am making. When you make a comparison of any product make sure that the testing is apples for apples and subjective. Dont implicitly trust all the hype. If the sellers says its 2 seconds a lap ask for you money back if you dont get those two seconds........................
Thanks I await Glen to come back to this.....one day LOL
As for front end and rear, not knowing the bike, would it not seem normal to first of all service the equipment with new oil, fork and gas shock. That way you are starting more fresh and at least YOU KNOW how old things are and a closer to at least understand performmance right??
While in you check springs out and maybe look at stacks/valving i fyou feel you can an dknow how with correct gear.
That seems to me as the first step with any new bike. Then look at oil weights/heights then into spring rates and valves. No need ot change the pricely stuff to start with till you have look at ALL areas. IMOP that is.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record ( which is what Gassit was inferring! ) thats my point exactly, totally devoid of any BS and being totally subjective. Both products are excellent products ( and there are others )but the end result is also to a not insignificant degree dependent on spring selection, valving, geometry setup, frequencies imparted by the chosen tyres and rider preference.
Anyone who says you can pull ANY product out of the box and ''its all a land of milk and honey'' without having to do anything further is being totally insincere. As are wild claims of 2 seconds per lap instantly! Yes that would be possible if you removed brand ''A'' suspension that was incorrectly sprung and valved and fitted brand ''B'' that was preset to something a lot closer.
Heck a lot of units of varying brands can be made to work very well. We were given a YSS single shock to respring and revalve for a ProTwins SV650 just prior to the past Nationals. In all fairness the quality inside this level of YSS shock is actually pretty damn good. We resprung it and revalved it, assisted by successive dyno runs on our suspension dyno to get the force curves as close as possible to where we wanted them, in fact mimicing as closely as possible an Ohlins force curve for SV650 on our expanding dyno database. That bike was at the sharp end, won races and finished near the top. We also ensured the customer knew how adjustments affected the shocks performance and related that to the dyno printouts that we gave him. If anyone wants to see how this dyno works go to Youtube and input ''KSS, suspension dyno''
Its also about some degree of backup service being available. Its not as if in NZ that there are road race specific engineers running around everywhere at everyones beck and call. There just arent the returns to justify.
While I have some reservations the occassional presence of Dave Moss is largely a good thing. We see a situation in MX where people are asking suspension guys (when present) to adjust their suspension, but afterwards the riders / helpers are still very much in the dark of what was done and why it helped make the bike better. I think its a good thing if racers / helpers are helped to have a better / enhanced understanding of the fundamentals.

Totally agree, More power to the rider - LEARN AND TOTALLY UNDERSTAND YOUR SUSPENSION/GEOMETRY/TYRES IS A MUST. If done then fast lap time, safer laps, less cost on repairs, slow laps most of all fast for tuner to get to bottom. Overall less time listening to tuners talking about crap and bla bla ! LOL![]()

1st job, Get the ergos sorted which is pretty much done. 2nd job spring rates/front oil level (getting close - at one track at least), 3rd job geometry - of which i have been all over the place trying different heights / lengths. (unfinished business), 4th valving and clickers (which to be honest is a never ending process)
Bike is a new challenge for me and hopefully will be able to teach me some new tricks and skills. At the moment its kind on front tyres and unkind on rears (irrespective of what suspension brand is in what end), so i have to apologise in advance the 2nd hand rears i had leftover from last season are all but consumed......... (can anyone else help Supersonic out on those in here ?)
