Gah. this was supposed to be around the other way.

This is an RE5 bought by a friend of mine in 1986 or 1987. He rang me and asked me to pick it up in Wellington where I lived and ride it down to Christchurch. I said yes.

Good fun. Nice bike and very smooth to ride. Great big thing it was. I have had more positve comments about that bike than any other I have used on the Cook Strait ferry. The ferry staff, random punters at gas stations, all wanted to have a chat about it.

He sold it some time later no idea where it is now.

I found a bunch of old photos at the weekend: I'm going to scan some of them, some gems......

My head hurts a bit thinking about this. Sometime in the mists of the late C20th I started this idiocy with a...

Honda CB 125 TDC - 4 stroke twin. Shit UJM. Passed test. Sold.
Suzuki TS 125 dirt bike - laughed like a drain. Can't remember what happened to it.
Unknown 250cc dirt bike - unregistered, went like stink. Gave it away.
Yam 250LC briiiiiiing ding ding ding crash. Fixed, painted. Sold.
Yam 350LC rinse and repeat. Loved it. Learned to do proper wheelies in a nylon bomber jacket. Ate pistons and cylinders. Sold.
Suzuki GS550 chopped pipes the lot. Fucking horrible. Sold. Quick.
Honda CB550 Four. Café racer. Steering damper, homemade exhaust silencer. Brakes made from tinfoil. Scared myself silly. Gone.
[Break due to years of kicking in doors and climbing over things in the face of rain/fog/shouting/bullets for Her Maj's Army]
Kawasaki 500cc dirt bike (KR - KX?) - unregistered/crosser. It tried to kill me. Sold for a lot of money oddly.
Another 250LC. Cheap Uni commuter. Mick Doohan 'Reggae' paintjob in red and black. Yeuch. Sold.
Kawasaki KR1S briiiiing ding ding ding crash. Again. Fucking fast. Also ate pistons. Sold.
Yam R6. 1999. Blue and White. The fast ones. Still miss it. All the goodies, hot, dynoed, the whole shebang. Ate kneesliders. Sold.
Honda XL175. Project bike. Mostly cobwebs and rust.
    Suz DRZ400-SM. Braaap braaap!
I may look calm, but in my head, I've killed you three times already.

    From Mild to Mad

    I began about aged 17
    1970 - Puch 50 scooter (hardly did 50mph!)
1971 - 125 Suzuki (sweet two stroke classic)
1972 - '71 blue 500 Kawasaki Mach III (bit of step up!! - lots of fun!. The sound, the kick in the powerband. Handling??)
1973 - New 250 Honda trail (nice but slow and pretty boring - what was I thinking?)
1974 - '72 blue 750 Kawasaki Mach IV (that's better. Why am I not getting any tyre wear?)
1975 - Ossa 250 trail (amazing handling. So so gearbox)
    1976 - 175 Benelli trail (crap really)
1998 - Kawasaki 650 trail (excellent way to get back in to biking)
2005 - '03 900cc Triumph Thunderbird Sport. Wonderful bike. Great balance of performance, looks and handling. Sore spot was the seat. Way better than the standard Thunderbird. My best bike.
2008 - '98 Triumph Trident (faster but not as good as the Thunderbird).

That's 6 two strokes and 4 four strokes.

    [QUOTE=nudemetalz;988786]Well, bike I have/had include:

At present: Guzzi V11 Sport and RF400R (for the next couple of days anyway) and a 1963 YG-1.

    etc...

In the photo of your dad he looks like he is racing a red kwaka Mach III. Any more info on that?

    Suzuki RG50 Gamma
    Yamaha XS400
Ducati 500 Pantah( very sad dropped this one big time)
    Suzuki DR400 SM
    Suzuki GSR600
    Honda CBR1000RR
    Suzuki DR650SE

Great bikes all loved all of them but my current DR is the most fun due to its all terrain capabilities and cheap running costs.

From "my" first bike as a tiny little kid up until now, having just bought my first road bike. Oh how this list will grow when I graduate..

    '95 Yamaha PW50 (cheers dad )
'03 Suzuki DRZ125L (still gets around the farm at home)
'02 KTM 200EXC (awesome bike, when it wasn't broken down)
'88 Honda VTZ250 (should do me for my learners and restricted)
[insert r6 etc "yay I'm an engineer now" bike here]

Note that when I got old enough to buy the bikes myself, the bikes I bought got older and cheaper too. Student life.

2012 EX250 fi Ninja - loved the bike, buying it brand new was a mistake though

'02 R6 - Speaks for itself, great bike

    K7 DR650 - Awesome, go anywhere fun

Have owned a handful of pocket and pit bike toys.

The R6 and the DR are both for sale as I'm moving to Australia and plan on buying a Tenere or a Transalp when I get there.
