The bike stopped sooner than it would normally therefore the clutch was not pulled in enough hence stalling, Dur. And since when SHOULD I be doing what you say, Are you the Bike police? I often have my right Foot up on take off, Shock horror. I only stalled when slowing down at the end of The drive, Not on take off, Why would I have my brakes on when I want to go?
So you slowed down using the rear brake ONLY, and failed to disengage the motor......which powers the rear wheel........so effectively your motor fights your brake to the death?

I am sorry. I had you confused with someone who knows how to ride a motorbike. Carry on as you were. On second thought - go faster.

    What???

You adjust your brakes to use the full travel every time they are used?

Does this strike anyone else as insane?

I like my brakes to have minimal travel as well ... anything else feels les than safe ...
How many fucking times do you morons not understand I adjust lever travel to a minimum. Maybe your lever travel is non adjustable, hence your struggling to comprehend.
AND my levers are brought closer to my fingers, making them more accessible. Travel is the same or even less!

Drum brakes front and rear you say....

What happens to your brakes once they get a bit hot? I've never ridden a bike with a drum that the lever travel didn't increase, the hotter the brakes got.

Mind, it aint like I was riding the bikes as the manufacturer probably intended.

Can't figure out what the thread has to do with riding skills.

Just to remind you guys, it was about someone adjusting something as insignificant as the brakes on the OP's bike without letting her know. All you guys here would be furious if anyone dared touching anything on your bikes without telling you. Especially if you don't know how much that person actually knows about motorbikes.

I had my rear brake lever adjusted ages ago. Thankfully they told me to be careful with it and even for a GN it made quite a difference. And anyone should be aware that people riding 250s are generally pretty new to riding and get faster into trouble if the bike doesn't react as it is supposed to.

I'd spit tacks if it happened to me, sure.

Still reckon she stayed in a foul mood too long over it.

It's possible that when something you are very used to, seems all too odd and very wrong when changed in an instant.
New tyres are a prime example...unbelievable difference, to the extent that they feel so different, you momentarily wonder if you have done the right thing. Then it dawns on you just how crap things were before.

so in hard braking situations does your brake lever make contact with the bars?

This isn't an attack, but it's pretty silly to adjust your brakes as you've described.

How fast are you traveling to determine what 'the maximum amount of brakes' you can apply? It varies considerably dependant on how much weight is transfered to the front.

On a superbike, if my brakes were in need of new fluid the lever would come back to the bar into turn one at Manfield. Do the same thing just after crossing the line and letting the throttle off, and you would have had the tarmac coming at you very quickly. It's all about load on the tyre/tactile capability of the rubber on a given surface.

I hate riding bikes with badly adjusted front brakes, I don't feel safe unless I can keep atleast 2 fingers wrapped around the throttle at all times, I can lock the brakes on both my bikes with one finger.
