Since switching to a "cruiser" I have found myself using a higher percentage of rear brake compared to when I was a sport bike or naked bike rider.
More weight to the rear of the bike minimises chance of lock up, different balance etc

Heh...On a side note, my wee cruiser has a bit more technology in it than a GN

So after three days, 2 follow up calls to the 0800 number and an email (don't get up in arms, I called back because they had given me incorrect timelines for my complaint process) I get a call a short while ago from whom I presume is the manager of the particular testing station I went to (I say presume, because he never introduced himself as the manager).

He apologises and agrees that my brakes a) shouldn't have been adjusted without prior permission and b) that I absolutely should have been told if they were. He says it was only meant as good will/a kind gesture (I have never said otherwise) and that my rear brake was NOT in n unwarrantable state, just that the guy thought it was a bit "sloppy". But, rather than suggest to me to adjust it, he took it upon himself to make the change.

I pointed out that no comments were written on the paperwork and suggested that in future these kinds of things should be documented as it could have merely been a slip of the memory (not telling me) but had he written It down on the warrant form which I receive a copy of, I would have picked up on the issue before I left the testing station. He agrees that it should have been written down and that normal practice would/should have been to not make such an adjustment but to write It down on the form as a suggestion to have it looked at seeing as It would not have failed the warrant based on how "sloppy" It was.

The most important thing to me (despite what some of you wish to believe of me) Is to ensure that future consumers are always asked permission prior to adjustments being made on their vehicles (I'm not against people helping others out but it's not hard to pop your head around the corner and say "hey, your brakes feel a little soft, all good if I adjust them a little?"). And please keep in mind this is a testing station only, not a mechanics where I would be more inclined to think they would make the odd change here and there but i would in this instance more likely be prompted to ask if anything had been changed. It's also important to me that people be kept fully informed of any changes made to their vehicle as I feel that is absolutely our right to know, these are pieces of our property which literally hold our lives in their hands, or seats I suppose!

I asked him what was he going to do to ensure this didn't happen again I.e. is he going to brief the staff and he said he would put it in some circular they must have for staff. That's a good start but doesn't leave me with great deal of confidence that the message will be heard by all, general practice where I work would be to have a memo addressing the specific issue, signed by each staff member to confirm that they've read and understood it. But, let's see. I reiterated that I am absolutely not against them helping people out (again, despite what y'all want to think) but that customers should always be kept fully informed of what is being done.

I did ask if he could please in writing let me know the measures he will take to ensure this kind of thing does not occur again and he said he would do this by the end of the day.

Just as someone else said, if this was your bike and someone of questionable mechanical knowledge messed with it, without your permission and worse yet, didn't tell you then sent you off on your way, you'd be livid. Let's say it's not something like your brakes, it could be anything else, something that could adversely effect the performance of your bike. Dare I say some of the reactions I have received will be based on the fact I am a young, woman, learner rider of limited mechanical knowledge but not for one second does this not justify my anger over what happened, good intentions or not. If this happened to any one of you I'd think you were justified in your feelings despite who you were! Let's see what this email says I guess!

Good on ya for sticking to your guns.

I would of been real pissed off if that happened to me, but unfortunately my response would of been completely different, and would of involved a whole heap of swear words and gestures. Just so that he would maybe think twice before touching other peoples stuff with out letting them know.

How's that saying go? honey, vinegar, something. When I first called up I WAS irate, which I shouldn't have done in retrospect however I guess he's not going to forget in a hurry now is he.
