    HID lights legal?

    Can these be fitted legally?
Not the ones where you swap out the lamps, the whole assembly, lamps, ballasts, reflector and lens.
I assume US ones wont be any good due to the beam dip being LHD.
    cheers.

Yes, I have one from the US made for our roads. No wof for it yet, but I'm near certain the headlight will pass.

What's the criteria, just the dipping pattern?

Testing stations seem so hit and miss with consistency.

I took my old Norton in last week and what a song and dance about ' the pattern" in the red lightbox dipping machine thing.

AFAIK if it's an entire replacement including lamp body it's legal as long as it meets performance requirements.

Never seen someone selling an entire HID unit including base etc though.

Couple threads on this incl http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...HID-conversion

Yes, if you do a complete fit out, it will be legal.

I think its just the beam patterns yeh. One approach is to mess about until you get the right beam pattern, and another way is to just get one you know meets the criteria, the latter seems the easier option to me.

Ducati Designs do one for the ST series, http://www.ducatidesigns.com/inc/sdetail/1730/35

Its not cheap, making the fibreglass, brackets and the wiring is no problem, does anyone do the lights as a whole assembly?

I'm old skool so is one light low beam and other high?

    cheers

The one got was an uncovered assembly, so it has the bulb/lens etc all in the right place, but you have to stick that in a housing.

Same bulb/lens, just a little blinder thing drops down during dip. http://www.theretrofitsource.com/pro...roducts_id=927

FWIW, PIAA bulbs give a better light with less current draw, less heat..

    I'm using a 55/60 which is the equivalent of 105/110 - $50 for 2 off tardme.

And a legal beam pattern in existing reflectors?
