    Tardme - yet another rant

I have come to the conclusion that a lot of people who think they are trying to sell stuff on tardme aren't really trying to sell things, particularly motorbikes, at all.

They use it as an online vanity project: See my cool bike? Isn't it awesome. Yes its five years old and has done 50,000kms and because I have put tassels and these bitchin new handgrips on it, of course it is "worth" 90% of the price of a brand new one with a two year warranty.

Indeed. In the current market, once a bike has been rolled out of the showroom, it's worth much less.

And Mr Insurance Company will happily tell one what one's bling is worth if one makes a claim. It's largely worth nothing.

No one is ever going to put their bike up for sale for what it's worth to be pushed lower.
If you don't want to buy the said bike at said price then don't, but calling the wambulance is a bit ott.

A set of Yoshi end cans is considered a "Trick mod" by many people which "dramatically raises horsepower and torque" so no doubt the bikes worth an extra 3k just for the exhausts...

Got my Busa with 29,000km on the clock for $7900 and it included 3 sets of gear and a pack rack. Deal of the century in my eyes, there are genuine people on there but there are also a fark load of dreamers...

yes its a lot like that now, if you are trading a bike you look at the highest price example on trademe and that sets the market price apprantly, however if you are buying one you find the cheapest and that sets the market price in a lot of poeples eyes,

If you dont think the bike is worth that price, dont buy it,

also learn how to use the expired listings search, very handy to see what is actually selling and not just sitting there

I'm happy, parted out a car for almost twice what I had it listed for as a classified.
Other than the VW world being made of tight arses who want stuff for nothing. $1 reserves meet the market.

Watched a bike for the last month and bought it for a grand less than he started with.
Sold a Triumph project in a day....I doubt if it was a good investment but it sure saved me from it becoming a money pit.

Mind you, I see lot of bike dealers going on TM too and finding the cheapest price for said model and telling you that that what it is worth to for him to trade. Even if it is 2-3 years older and has 10-20K more milage then the one you are trading...

Funnily enough...even the cheapest ones are often still sitting there on TM not going anywhere!

i have no doubt they do, but ifs its on trademe its still not sold, it is a good reference tool when used right, but in the end, something is only worth what someone else will pay for it,

I totally agree. I see bikes sitting on there for 6-12 mnths and sellers still beleive that they are worth an outrageous asking price. I guess it all depends if it is a model that is popular and how much someone is willing to pay for it. I had one dealer tell me that my old 08 CB900F with 8K on the clock was only worth 4k to trade, and he had an 05 model with 45K sitting there for $8.5K. Went to the dealer next door and got offered $6.5K for the same bike not more then 20 minutes later.

If you want to see the biggest ripoffs on TM, take a look at what people are asking for their wreck of a Landcruiser or Safari/Patrol that is 10 years overdue to be scrapped. Same goes with Hiluxes.
