    WTB - Road legal bucket

    Am looking at getting a bike to turn into a bucket racer. Want something road legal that I can ride around for a few weeks to get a feel for it before I get the grinder out.

    Looking for an FXR150 ideally but could also be persuaded by an RG150, or something similar.

    Budget is around a grand based on what I can afford, if this is a bit optimistic feel free to let me know.

    I haven't done any bucket racing before so any advice about what to go for is welcome. I am 107kg and 6'1" so want something fairly robust!

    Want something fairly local but don't want to drive more than a couple of hours.

    RG150 isn't a bucket legal engine, unless you wanna go all out and sleeve/stroke it down to 125.

    You're dead right, should have thought that through a bit more sorry about the confusion. No I don't want to spend ages dicking around, not at this stage, want to try racing to see if I like it and maybe do some fettling a bit later if i do get on OK. As a probably not even average road rider I will most likely suck balls so I want something I'm not going to shed tears over if I wreck it.

    Have had a look through this list (I'm assuming it's pretty accurate) and the only other bike I am excited about is the RD125, possibly just because of the awsomeness of its bigger siblings though but I reckon it would be good fun.

    I got barred up when I scored some Suzuki GT125 motors. They could be made to decimate all, as could the RD, but it needs a smarter mofo than me to do it. Have a read of the ESE works tuner thread...If you've got a few days free...That'll tell you the lengths gone to on old two strokes. Mind you, 30 horsepower from an air cooled 125, is pretty bloody amazing.

    I had a GT250 briefly in the UK, sadly it was never very reliable (i.e. constantly broke down) so ended up being parted out. Had intended a resto but wanted cash for something else. Cool little machine though.

    Yeah I have been following the ESE tuner thread, really amazing stuff, WAY out of my league of course but great from an interest point of view.
