    Newbie helmet help

    Hi there guys,

New to both KB and motorcycling and currently looking for a semi-decent new helmet for a maximum of $500. Have been considering checking out the Bell M1 and Shoei Qwest (based on their 5 star sharp ratings) and they are at a place where I will be able to try them on testing fitting/comfort etc.

Not after something with lots of gadgets, but do want maximum protection for price.

Does anyone have any experience with these helmets or reviews and possible advice? Am open to other suggestions for other helmets, just don't really have a lot of spare time at the moment to spend on looking into all the different aspects and considerations of helmets.

    Cheers,

    Matt

Know what you mean Matt. You don't want to waste time researching the item most likely to save your life when you can get advice from the interweb eh.

Consider looking here: http://www.webbikeworld.com/ for a few reviews,
    also try here: http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle-helmets
    and also here: http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/

Consider the colour of the helmet and how visible it will be to other road-users...

    Ahaha..
To be honest I have already spent hours looking, comparing prices, Sharp ratings, watching sales reviews, but there is so much information and being new it is difficult to know who/what to trust and not to. I would love to dedicate a whole week to researching it, but doing so would compromise my studies with upcoming assignments and exams (such as going over what would happen when you damage certain parts of the brain, spinal cord in a motor bike accident).

That's why I've asked on here.

    Cheers,

If you've got a budget in mind, go to any decent bike shop and try a few on in that price range. A good snug fit is the main criteria.

If this takes you longer than 30 minutes I'd be mighty surprised...

A rigid full face lid is quieter than a flip front lid, so that comes down to preference. Ear plugs even out the wind noise anyhow.

And don't get hung up on having a fancy name or paint job for your lid

Seriously tho, it's all about the fit.. It may feel great in the shop. It may be the right colour and the right price, but wear it for a few hours or more at a time and you'll soon realise why you should have done more research on why the fit really matters!

i have a shoei qwest & find the fit good for me, not too bad for wind noise & minimal buffeting.
whether it will work as well for you depends on the fit & your riding position.
one benifit of shoei is the pinlock which comes standard, if you get another brand some other solution to fogging will have to be found

Picked up a 100 dollar "BOX BX1" helmet.
Ironically I was about to buy an arai helmet, but this had a better safety rating...
