Either she's getting something out of it OR the amoral publisher of the affidavit has got some sort of agenda from this issue. I find it hard to accept that she's an innocent victim who had no control over anything.

he Slater family failed to defeat Len Brown by masterminding John Palino's campaign in last week's mayoral election, so now we have a dirty blow beneath the belt.
Former National Party president and Palino campaign manager John Slater couldn't topple the Mayor fairly, now his son, Cameron, is trying to humiliate him out of office
Looking at what little I know about what she has said seems she either set him up or is miffed he chose to stick with his wife.

Hmmm, and watching Mr Slater on TV tonight makes me wonder even more what his agenda is. "She didn't intend to destroy her former lover..." Okaaaay, so why is he drip feeding the juicy titbits (pardon the pun) - obviously dragging out the dirty laundry slowly and painfully gives him some sort of woody.

Meh, it's average This stuff is going on all around us all the time, no doubt plenty of KB'ers have been on one side of the bed or the other in this scenario.
Our Len has made himself a public figure with civic duties & responsibilities which he will now & in the future struggle to fulfill. Because he could not keep his strides on. Fail.
Worst part of it is. I've had that song, "i'm in Bevan, i,m in Bevan every time we touch etc" stuck in my head all day. Bastard.

It would appear, from what i've dug up, that the publisher was made aware of the Brown affair some time ago and that someone from the Brown camp made personal threats to the publisher if he exposed anything in the media. The publisher decided he was'nt going to bow down to blackmail and went ahead and exposed details on the Whale Oil Blog Site. It also included an affidavid from the the mistress in this affair along with some very sordid details.
That's when the shit hit the fan as it had been going on for at least two years.
I don't know what the outcome will be but it has made for some very entertaining reading over the past few days.

Yes, noticed that too. That affidavit had to have been drawn by a lawyer.

It is true, that what he does in private is his concern. If he chooses to sleep with a Helen Clark mask on, that is no concern of ours. It's odd or eccentric, but harmless... But those who live in this city and are affected by his policies and decisions should question when he poses a detrimental impact on those closest to him - in other words, if he can cheat on and lie to those love him, what would he do to those he does not know or care about.
Very well said and your words deserve repeating.

The man was setting himself up to be corrupted; maybe that's already occurred with past paramours being placed in good jobs.

The fact that LB spouted on about family values and used the word 'faithful' more than once in his campaigning schedule means the people in Auckland who voted for him should take that as the big fingers to them ' thanks for the vote guys :-) ' If his wife won't trust him anymore then, why should the public who pay him to look after their city in their monthly rates bills anymore ?

Afraid I have to disagree. On the one hand we have a mature man who is in a position of authority and influence equivalent to the Prime Minister, a man who is popular and moves in circles of power. He's famous and has an entourage of people to make him feel important.

On the other hand we have a young Chinese immigrant who thinks she is succeeding in life but can never be quite sure. Furthermore her culture tells her older men are to be respected and listened to. The Mayor of the city flatters her, then he flirts, then he calls her regularly, declares passion for her...and she ignores all that? Just imagine the opportunities and dreams she could have of where this might lead.

Fair points. I think the reporter knows a great scandal when he sees one. Its valid journalism even if it makes me shudder too. Check out the John Profumo Scandal. No secrets lost but it lead to the fall of a govt.

As for Miss Cheung - she is a woman scorned. Len the prick just dropped her, no letting down, no kindness, just no response to her 30 texts.

If she really had an agenda though, she'd have sworn the affidavit 3 weeks ago and cooked his goose properly. I consider she showed great integrity waiting till the election was over.

Perhaps he has got the same attitude as when councils in general hike rates to pay all too often for grandiose schemes......''the ratepayers will get over it''

Here in New Plymouth a local businessman ( that's a really excellent qualification ) has just totally demolished the encumbent left wing free spending mayor, Harry Duynhoven. Being a career politician long since removed from a conception of reality also didn't help him. His arrogance in helping to smoothe the passage of ratepayer funded fantasies hurts most the people that he is supposed to have an affinity with, people on low and fixed incomes already struggling to make ends meet.

But it has long since been a realisation that left wing politicians can be the biggest hypocrites in that they freely accept the fat salaries and taxpayer funded perks. Its also true that you don't have to be a socialist to have a social conscience.

So, one socialist comprehensively ejected here. One to follow in Auckland sometime soon.

    .
So, how old does a person need to be before we can say they should be held personally responsible for their own decisions and the repercussions?

fuck me if a nearly 30 year old woman isnt, then no wonder there is virtually no concept of personal responsibility any more, its all, aww, that poor person, blah blah blah. did he rape her? no, she was willing.
Maybe the young slut shook her ass at the older bloke thinking he would pave a nice career out ahead of her?

cant just beleive everything ya read

It's endemic. Our Mayor, well he may have ceased to be in his role now, owns swathes of land, property & developments throughout the region and he was the first one to chuck his toys out of the cot & use loop holes to minimise his rates payments set by the council he heads. Oh, he is hugely pro mining & has spent a heap on junkets to promote our resources world wide. His view on this must need glasses like jam jar bottoms.
Local gummint are getting better at representing a smaller proportion of their constituents but appealing to a larger proportion when it comes to voting.
Ggggrrrrrrrrr. Self representation & smelling bullshit should be on the school curriculum.
