Fairing repair - My journey

Around six weeks ago that happened...

Leaving me with this...







As much as my pride was hurt I didn't want to pay somebody to fix her up or make a insurance claim and loose the bike altogether. So being the type of bloke that lives in his shed I took it apon myself to fix up my mistake.
All the products I used can be brought over the counter at any auto parts store. Specialist products can be brought from smits group and the paint can be matched and purchased from The Wairau Paint Centre.
Only basic tools were used (sanding block, air orbital sander, air die grinder, Dremel, compressor, HVLP Gun) The paint was sprayed in my shed which I converted to a makeshift booth.
Paint is all 1k and safe to spray without a proper booth and protective gear.

The blue metallic basecoat was reacting horribly with anything I sprayed on it, so I opted to sand it all back (fucken sucked) and respray the entire top end.
This is the first repair to plastics I have ever done, have minor experience with patching rust on cars but nothing as large as this.

Total cost: Less than 300 bucks (40 hours+ Labour)

Came with the bike man, handy little bit of kit. Busa is to farken wide to fit on my rear stand so I use them to lube the chain

Fark those cunts are slow! I passed two of 'em going up the back of the hill behind Kawakawa Bay.

One of those roller set-ups would be ideal for cleaning my wheels, prick of a job that is.

She was a slow old ride on that leg. Last time I ever ride near the back of a group that large

Couple of old bits of cardboard and about four layers of fiberglass cloth and resin on the back. Solid as but wont last another fall

I assume you used polyester resin in your glasswork? Did that bond ok with the fairing.[Which Ithink are injected ABS?]

Bonded great dude. Had good amounts of flex in it as well. I used a flexable polyester bog over the fiberglass and it hasn't managed to crack yet.
The polyester resin I used can be brought from supercheapauto, along with the hardner

Hi buddy can you pm me the products you used i got vfr 750 fairng top half its nasty

I have done any thing like this befour but i give it a go
