Got caught up in it before Otaki, took a shortcut which saved a good 15 mins, only crawling for 30 mins, once we got through that bloody traffic light controlled pedestrian crossing in Otaki, we were off.

Going north, there was nothing after the lights, going south the roundabout had a few cars backed up.

yes coming south the roundabout ,the petrol station and the pedestrians create the south bound gridlocks

yeah, I reckon it was always the pedestrians but the round-about was a convenient scape goat. Don't get me wrong, the intersection does add to it but it is the pedestrians that cause most of the issue.

If your ever coming home on a sunday arvo or when you know the traffic could be slow, hook a left at Manakau Sth rd and go the back way past the racecourse and come out at the roundabout.

Worth it just for the ride, skipping the traffic is an added bonus.

Especially on Friday, as soon as the traffic got the green light, someone pressed the pedestrian button again.
