Remake the old Motostar MX helmets please

why o why did they stop making them in favour of their less than desirable updated version which failed to impress asteticlly.......remake them to orig old specs with the same bold plain colours (none of this graphic crap) but revise the interior(which was their shortfall)who's keen?

Errr no. I do no miss my motostar nor do I miss my ancient shoei road helmet.
Both were too effing cold to use in winter even after I redid the padding.

Completely agree on the graphics though. There was a helmet warehouse in waihi (can't remember the brand - but was low end) and you can get the helmets off them without the stickers as they assemble them there. MotoX helmets were about $90.

^ Perhaps your mistaking the model?-its the mx ones of the early to mid 80's era im referring too,they wernt really meant to keep you warm but they rocked the mx look with the vented mouthgaurd design,(two rows of 4 horizontal flutes at 45% on each side)even the sun visor was fluted as well.........no other helmets have even come close since as far as cool goes,perhaps the aviator by airoh but already that model seems to have ceased production.........id still prefer a retro fitted motostar as they lacked interior comfort.

Horrible. Sides of your face (where the goggles stopped and the mask hadn't started was venturi for the cold, running it around your face. Was a good looking helmet though. Just not so suitable for modern goggles (which are much smaller than the ski masks of the past, or modern jackets (you need to wear a mouth warmer/scarf or something as the mouthguard was a good 6" away from your face (with little cheek support/warmth).

As far as I was concerned it was one of those works of art, looks good - but never wear it for anything but looks.

Also failed to mention it was no lightweight, I don't know how many layers of paint it had - but when i chipped mine it relieved a similar manufacturing to bowling balls.

FFM, was the brand name. Not too shabby for the budget price.

hell yes! i got one for my 13th birthday in 1986, best dirt helmet ever, an nz copy of the bell moto3, in later years i foung a mint one in kids size which my own kids used. theyll never make 'em again coz ffm (fred ferrintino manufacturing.waihi.) no longer makes helmets...merely imports them with there
logo attached. in fact all helmets are cheaper in nz now that ffm dont make any...due to the 'protect the home market' tarriff that existed

I've still got an FFM - it was the first of what is now called an ADV helmet. It had an MX style chin, and a peak, but also a visor. I'd remove the visor and use goggles for off road and on the dirttrack, and fit the visor for road use. A good helmet, but seriously heavy and murder in cross winds at road speeds.

i do remember the ffm road helmets that almost everybody had in the eighties/early nineties were frucken diabolical....noisiest pos ever, altho i had no idea as it was my first fullface road helmet with visor etc so thought it was good enuf. must say the Pro Challenger wasnt any better

Still got this in the shed, bought by my g/f (now wife) over 30 years ago. Used for about 10 years of speedway but it never hit the ground hard (lots of other parts of me did, though)

that impressive pete...those things werent cheap $300 for a bell moto3 and $400 for a bell moto4 in the mid eighties

to the op...i just remembered where you can get a new motostar helmet from...the back wall of kingsland motorcycles, if its still there? years ago the place had been deserted with all the stock incl bikes still in place
